Split WiFi Bands.

How do I get my WiFi bands separate? I’m unable to manage it in admin. The Xfinity assistant is useless and doesn’t help at all. It also refuses to allow me to speak with a person. I’m sure this is something you can split quick on your end as I used to have it split on my old router with you.

Good morning, @user_slc82f ! I’m sorry to hear how frustrating this has been. I can definitely understand how upsetting it is when you're trying to connect devices that require a specific WiFi band, only to find the settings aren't available and the automated support tools aren't getting you anywhere. With our XB7 and XB8 gateways, Advanced Band Steering often combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks into a single WiFi name and can limit the ability to separate them manually which unfortunately we are not able to change for you.

So to be clear I have no option to split them so I can manually connect to Wifi6? I find that odd as I have been able to separate bands for over 10 years previously. Does Xfinity have any router with this option? I find it hard to believe Xfinity has not access to split it.

Also would removing my WiFi Extender provide me with this option? I have friends who can do this so I’m positive it’s possible.

I completely understand your frustration, @user_slc82f . When you've previously had separate WiFi bands and now can't access those settings. The reason you're no longer able to simply separate the bands is that the XB7 and XB8 gateways use band steering, which combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks under a single WiFi name and password. By design, the gateway automatically manages which band a device connects to and will often override manual settings to steer devices to what it determines is the best frequency.

I understand but 2.4Ghz is not realistic for most of my devices in 2026 when I am paying for this speed. So I have no options with Xfinity to resolve this?

Thank you for your reply, @user_slc82f  I have a link that walks you through giving access to your Admin portal using the Xfinity App. Here's that link https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access, After you allow access from there you may be able to access your admin page and adjust your Wi-Fi settings. Can you give that a try and see if you are able to.
