Speed upgrade

I upgraded to the 500mbps plan around 7 hours ago as of writing this. I was wondering whether this change is immediate. I have rebooted the gateway multiple times.

When ordering the upgrade online the website said I did not need to upgrade my equipment, however, this evening I received a text message saying my order would be shipped to my address.

So I am confused as to where or not I will be needing/getting equipment. For context I have the Cisco XB3 gateway.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Hello, @seeleyajoe thank you for taking time to create a post over the Xfinity Forums. Those are great questions, and want to help get them answered for you. The speed change won't take effect until the work order completes, and since it sounds like new equipment is being sent out. That is typically 5 business days (maybe longer with the holiday weekend) to receive, once you get the new equipment and go through the activation the order will complete.

The getting started kit usually has a walkthrough guide for equipment activation steps, but always like to provide this helpful equipment activation document through the Xfinity App: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/activate-xfi-gateway-app

Regarding the XB3 and supporting the higher speeds, I found this great document that has more information. The gateway can support 600 MBPS throughput, but with it being a Docsis 3.0 modem, we're always looking to get customers on a Docsis 3,1 modem when going to higher speeds: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/broadband-gateways-userguides

Please let me know if that answered your questions, or there is anything else I can assist with.
