social security number

Long story, but when I was on chat with an agent the other day I gave them my SSN and DOB in a "secure" link. I wasn't thinking, was just so frustrated, and we needed to make phone calls on our iphones again. Should I be worried about this? I normally would never do this and now I'm freaking out.

@user_eeb4ad I can definitely understand the concern! Can you tell me more about how you get to the chat? Was it through our Xfinity Assistant? Just to confirm, you were reaching out to Xfinity Mobile due to technical issues with your phone?

Yes, it was through Xfinity chat. And yes about technical issues with my phone that we are currently getting resolved in person later today.

Our Xfinity mobile services do authenticate differently than residential services, and they do provide a secure link for you to enter that information without actually giving it to the agent. This is done to protect your information. I hope this helps to set your mind at ease.

Thank you so much for clarifying that for us, @user_eeb4ad! Our Xfinity Mobile team does have specific ways/things they need to verify the account to keep the account secure. With visiting through our Xfinity Assistant, you wouldn't have anything to worry about as it is secure. Please let us know if you have any further questions/concerns.

I had that happen earlier this week when on the phone with Xfinity Mobile.   I was trying to get a frustrating phone issue resolved, and was not thinking clearly, I guess.  Normally, I'd never reveal my full Social Security number - and it was asked along with my date of birth.    After I hung up (without resolution to my problem) I was kicking myself for foolishly giving out information that I am sure in the past was prohibited to be asked for ID verification.
