Scam

We got unsolicited phone call this a.m from person identifying as working for Xfinity. Person had offer to update our modem for 1 time charge of $15.00. They would sent new modem and the deal would be for 12 months. Person couldn’t or wouldn’t be specific of charges or how it would change our billing. However, person was insisting that we had to take offer now. We said to email us with information of deal so we could make decision after we thought about it. They did sent email but the email had no more information other than push this link to accept offer. And offer expires in 72 hours. My email identified the email as spam. The phone number was [Edited: "Personal Information"]. What do you think?

Hello @user_a9a9e4, thanks for reaching out to share your experience and express your concerns. Sadly scammer can be more common than people realize, and we do our best to protect our customer from these types of situations. If you go here: fcc.gov/general/frauds-scams-and-alerts-guides. You can learn more about common phone scams and ways you can protect yourself. You can also go to our Internet security alerts site for news, updates, Comcast security alerts and top phishing scams.

If you are renting a modem from Xfinity, it's important to keep in mind that upgrading, or swapping the modem would not incur a 1 time charge. This is just one of the many benefits of renting a modem. Also, if you like, we can take a look at your account to make sure no modem replacements are necessary. We can also check to see if there are any notes on your account from an employee reaching out to you.

To get started, please use the chat icon in the upper right to enter Direct Messaging and send us a message with your full name and full address.

Here are the detailed steps to direct message us:

• Click "Sign In" if necessary

• Click the "direct messaging" icon (upper right corner of this page)

• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

• Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list

• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

FYI, I also got a call that felt legit, they also spoofed the Xfinity text number.  They asked me for $101 dollars (odd sum) because they were sending me the startup package.  I've been renting my modem from Xfinity for a couple of years and part of the service agreement is that I can replace the unit at no cost.  Be careful out there, they scammers are getting smarter.

hey @user_e56127, I would love to investigate. Please send a direct message.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

Our team can most definitely take a further look at this issue.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

 Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or https://comca.st/3EqVMu7

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

 - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

 - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

 Press Enter to send it

 See https://comca.st/3KQF8q9r for an example.

I no longer work for Comcast.
