Ridiculous! Internet through Neighbors Electricity, Neighbors power down so Our internet is down.

We need a service tech to come rewire the internet, because somehow our neighbors power being out equals our internet being out which makes no sense! Our power is still on, but because our internet is wired through our neighbors power and not our own- our net has been out. For a week! And this  customer service is an absolute joke. Is there anything we can do? Or any way we can talk to a human being to get someone out here, for petes sake?

Good morning user_l7q6tv

Thank you for reaching out! I am not sure of how this information regarding power routing was delivered, but this is not factually correct. We would be happy to get a status on this downtime but allow me to explain some specifics on the way power is distributed for the service. The power company and local engineering authorities design the power grid, this grid is used to power our equipment that each home is fed coax signal from. No home would be the source of power, power is always derived from the primary distribution source for the street or block, that power is then divided up to power the service amps that send the signal. Your location is most likely receiving power through a separate transformer than what is feeding your neighbors home. There is no way to rewire this, that is a fixed system and is approved by many regulating bodies locally and also the power company itself. We do not go to the power company and tell them what source we are doing to use. We just submit for permits to establish a set of locations, and then power company will then tell us the option they will approve to power our equipment which is what feeds the specific set of locations we service.

@XfinityThomasB Hi! Thank you for responding in a timely manner, I did not know that, I appreciate the information. Who is responsible for fixing the service then? Should we be contacting Xfinity or a local electrician?

Of course! Always happy to help provide specifics. We are the ones that fix any issues outside, only interior issues fall on the customer. I am happy to see what is causing the issue, I hope it would be okay to follow up in the public thread later to close the loop on the issue and resolution.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address? Our team can most definitely take a further look at this issue.

I am providing power for the xfinity internet in my area.  Due to issues with the xfinity equipment.  I have a rectifier hooked up and it is powered by my extension cord from my outlet.  So our statement could be wrong.  I want to know how I can get reimbursement for my expense providing power to support your internet that you charge my neighbors for.

@matthew517 that's great you've been able to help people in your area. That's beyond commendable! The best course of action to take is to have any person that has a service issue reach to us directly. Our team will always take the right steps to help. In general, we can always adjust any customer's bill for a loss of service, but reimbursement for expenses is outside our support.
