request for website enhancement

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before - I searched and found nothing that matched.  When logging into the xfinity website my pet peeve is irritated again and again.  I put in my username and am taken to a page to enter my password and there is no reason I'd type in any other field than the password, but it's not in focus so when I type nothing happens, I need to click on it first.  Why - there is no reason for it?  I'm a web developer so know this is an extremely simple thing to fix and, yeah, a pet peeve as I said but so irritating.  Please correct that in interest of a better UI experience.
