received equipment that is not mine - not my name or account number, but it is my address

My address received equipment (modem and Xumo streaming box) to my address, but the name is someone I never heard of nor do I have any knowledge if they ever lived at my address.   The account number is not mine.

I tried to chat with Xfinity to return it but that was unsuccessful.  My address received bills for unreturned equipment also (again to the this other persons name, not mine).  I again chatted with customer service and this time they told me to take it to a Xfinity store, which I am not willing to do as the nearest store is an hour away.  It's not my equipment nor my name nor my account number.   I am tempted to just throw it in the trash.  I have no risk to me or my account right?  

I am not sure why Xfinity wont just send me a FedEx return label and I would be happy to do that. But I am not driving an hour for this.  It's not mine nor my account number.  I just don't want this somehow to fall on my because it is my address.   My account is clean.  It's almost like someone opened a fraudulent account using my address.

Hello user_kkmyl5 thank you for taking the time and letting us know about your situation. Returning the equipment to our store is usually the best solution to a situation like this, but we understand that hour drive each way is a lot of gas. We actually do partner with UPS, so this equipment can be returned to a local UPS store, and all you'd need is the account number printed on the box. 

 

Our Xfinity Return Center will show you the nearest return locations near you.
