Questions: MoCA turn up and set up at new site move on August 27
Hi everyone!
I am a former network engineer that has used MoCA successfully previously at my home. I am presently moving from a townhouse with Xfinity 2G internet service thru XB8 router to a townhouse and moving service on Thursday, August 27, 2026. I understand that I have to turn on MoCA on the XB8 (as I did not use MoCA at my present Xfinity location with the XB8).
1) I assume this will be straightforward through logging into the router or do I need to involve technical support to accomplish this?
In regards to the MoCA boxes, I understand that I will need one (Xfinity compliant) for each of the three rooms that I want to have ethernet access through the present coax wall connections.
2) Is there a webpage listing Xfinity authorized/compatible boxes?
3) Do I need one at the site of the XB8 or does is that unnecessary with the XB8?
Please confirm location of any additional equipment (i.e. splitters, etc.). I have not moved in yet and have not had extensive time in the townhouse so I have not spotted where Internet service enters the townhouse.
4) I would like to know some specifics regarding if splitters are inside or outside townhouse.
5) I was planning on a self-install. Should I schedule a technician to come out to the townhouse on Thursday August 27, 2026 the date of my Xfinity service move?
Sorry for the length of message but my experience with MoCA was through an AT&T fiber network Internet connection and I want to be sure that I follow Xfinity standards/guidelines/best practices for my Internet service at my new location. Would appreciate any assistance here ahead of my move on August 27.
Thanks,

@user_a5ctvh Thanks for adding a post to the forum. Once the service is installed, you can enable the MoCa setting through the Admin Portal. It's a good way to use your service if you choose. That may not be immediately available though, so you want to follow the steps here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access. Once the Admin Portal is enabled, you can use it to enable the MoCa setting under Connections. A filter on the modem is recommended usually for best performance.
For any additional equipment, it would be up to the home owner, and what they want for their network. Customer service agents do not have any insights to the property, or the connections. That includes any wiring, splitters, or where service enters, and how it is managed inside the home. The home owner would need to do that onsite to learn how everything is set up. Agents are able to see the equipment that is assigned to the location, and their health. The length/condition of cables, or if there are splitters is something agents usually ask customers during troubleshooting.
We always recommend a self install as it's free, especially if the home had Xfinity with the last owner. A technician would be great to install the service if you're not comfortable with it, but they would only make sure the service is active and working. It would be up to them to coach a customer on how to add or manage a MoCa network. Not to say they wouldn't, but they're not required. If you need more info to feel secure about using MoCa at the new location, there are many posts here on the forum with guidance from community experts. If you have any questions, or other concerns before getting started let us know.
