Question About Xfinity FDX Rollout Process: Infrastructure Installed but Service Not Yet Activated?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area and have a question about Xfinity's FDX rollout.

I'm currently on the 2 Gbps/250 Mbps plan, and my connection is performing as expected (around 2.2 Gbps down and 280–300 Mbps up), so this isn't a speed issue. I'm just trying to better understand how the rollout process works.

On January 28, 2026, I received an email from Xfinity stating that my neighborhood would be receiving next-generation network upgrades on February 4. The email said the work would "ultimately allow us to offer equally fast, multigigabit upload and download speeds." After that work was completed, my upload speeds eventually increased from around 40 Mbps to about 300 Mbps, which I understand is the Next Gen (mid-split) upgrade.

I later contacted Xfinity support, and they confirmed that my address is not currently eligible for FDX/symmetrical speeds. They also couldn't provide any information about my node or when FDX might become available.

More recently, I spoke with an Xfinity field technician. He told me my area has already received the physical infrastructure needed for FDX, and he even showed me where fiber had been pulled nearby as part of the upgrades. He also mentioned that only certain parts of Fort Lauderdale currently have FDX enabled, and that even where he lives in Miramar, the FDX infrastructure is already in place but hasn't been activated yet.

That made me wonder if Xfinity typically completes the physical infrastructure first and then enables FDX later in phases.

I'm not looking for an ETA—I'm just trying to understand the rollout process. Is it common for the infrastructure to already be in place while service hasn't been activated yet? If so, what usually determines when an area or node is enabled for symmetrical speeds?

I'd appreciate any insight from Comcast employees or anyone familiar with how the FDX rollout works. Thanks!

Thank you for reaching out @ko3mcg We do not have access to the timeline or details for work being completed in areas for enhancing speeds. I totally get how this is not the best answer or the most desirable, and I am really sorry.
