Prepaid returned

Hi...I had paid for a month of prepaid service which included the free gateway.  Unfortunately while waiting for my router my landlord informed me that I already have a connection for another provider and he'd prefer that I use them so we don't have to drill holes in the wall for a new cable.  So I sent back the router (unopened) and I'm assuming that's all I need to do.  So just to be sure I have tried for hours to get someone either via chat or in the phone to understand what I'm talking about and stop reading off a script about how they'd "love to help with my service because I'm such an important customer".   I never even activated the device.  I simply want to know that it was received (I don't even care about a refund for the unactivated month of prepaid service).  And I'd just like to have my account closed and assured there was no autopay activated or anything.  I'm sorry to sound harsh but it has been a ridiculous experience trying to get any help.  I've spent over an hour on chat only to have them tell my I'm all set I just need to do a verbal confirmation...they transfer me and the person that picks up had no clue what it's about and asks how they can help me.  I explain and then  we lose connection and I'm hung up on.  I've tried to call multiple other times and no one even knows what I'm asking about.  This would be a 1 min phone call.  Instead it's taken hours with nothing accomplished.

If there is anyway someone can offer me even the tiniest bit of customer service for like 2 minutes that would be great..  literally just need to know that there's nothing else I need to do....and even thought I was prepaid ..I'd like to close my account just so my info is scrubbed since I never even activated service

Hello, @user_0b6be5 thank you so much for your post for information on closing out your Prepaid Xfinity services. With most of our services just sending back the equipment does not close out an account just removes the equipment from being billed to the account. That said that is for standard residential services, not our Prepaid services. Since our Prepaid services are handled only by a specific team you would need to reach out to them directly to confirm the status of your account and services. Their direct number is 1-855-75-PREPAID or 1-855-757-7372 if you were calling our standard 1-800-Xfinity that may have been where the misunderstanding was as they do not have any information on Prepaid services and accounts.
