prepaid internet for tenant

Location currently has xfinity internet, Id like to add a prepaid modem/router just for a tenant using a coaxial splitter to feed the two modem/routers. Is this possible/allowed?

Hi there @user_66a72c, thank you for reaching out to the Xfinity Support Forums, we're happy to help. This is a great question, and the answer is unfortunately you cannot have both prepaid and post-paid services at the same address. We do have some alternatives, which I'll list below.

If the premise is a separate building, and registers as such with USPS, we can do a build-out for a sub-account (such as Apartment 1, Unit 1, etc.) and the prospective tenant would be able to set up services there using their information. They would need their own tap, however. If connected to the same tap, or entry point, and one account or the other goes into a status of non-payment or temporary disconnect, both services would be affected as a result. This is also why we do not allow multiple, separate accounts at the same address. Building out a sub-account can take some time, anywhere between 10-14+ business days as it usually requires a site survey.

If the tenant is staying in the room in the home, or on another floor (I know this has been popular in some remodels), in some regions customers can sign-up for a second internet service on their existing account--this would add a second charge to your bill, however, the tenant would not receive a bill in their name, and promotional offers may be limited.

Another possible solution would be investing in your own equipment and network set-up. With recent advancements in technology, some routers now broadcast multiple signals, including a guest network built-in. As a note, this is different from using multiple routers--we wouldn't recommend multiple routers in the home stemming from the same modem, as that can cause interference on the network. Here is our policy on using your own equipment: Using Third Party Equipment

I hope this helps, let me know if I can answer any follow-up questions!

@XfinityBrie Thank you for the info. Was really hoping to piggy back off the existing pipe in but keep accounts separate. Do you know if its possible to get a xfinity account with a plan that does not require a physical installation but would allow the user to access xfinity hotspots? So no physical installation, no need to be linked to a physical address but would have separate billing account? That way the tenant could access the my xfinity hotspot but keep their account finances totally separate.

My apologies, this is not an option that we currently have available. We are unable to have 2 accounts at one location. Our hotspots do require a monthly service subscription as our on demand passes are no longer available. Since there is already services at the location, we would not be able to set up a separate service for you unless there is a separate service address.

I no longer work for Comcast.

When upgrading from prepaid to post paid would the prepaid be suspended during the wait time for the new device. I'm not able to go without any internet for 3 to 5 days so I'm wondering what my options are?
