Possible Scammer acting as Xfinity

After I called Xfinity on 5/21/22 and 5/22/22 to schedule an appointment, I started receiving multiple calls from [Edited: "Personal Information"] starting on 5/222/22. Every time I pick up, there is no response so I hang up after saying hello 2-3x. They called again today and left an “automated message” (meaning there was no real voice, it was like the google voice reading off a script). The transcription of the voicemail was: “Hello we are calling on behalf of the Xfinity advance technical support team in reference to your technician appointment and to provide you a faster resolution please call us back at [Edited: "Personal Information"] again that number is [Edited: "Personal Information"] thank you…”. I have now blocked the number. I already have a confirmed appointment and don’t need to make any changes. But this number keeps calling. Judging from the other posts, it seems they are monitoring who calls into Xfinity and uses that info to call the customer and scam them?

Hello thank you for reaching out about this. I looked up that phone number ending in 6408 and found it is not one of ours. This world is full of bad actors and it personally drives nuts! I am sorry that you are being bothered by these calls and blocking them is the best way to go. I can tell you with certainty we did not sell or give your information to another company or anyone. If you would like me to check the status of your appointment just to give a bit more peace of mind I would be happy to do so. To get started, please send me a Peer to peer message with your full name and address.

To send a "Peer to peer" message:
Click "Sign In" if necessary
• Click the "Peer to peer chat" icon
• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
• Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
• Press Enter to send it

After over an hour on a chat with someone from Xfinity I finally got an appointment scheduled for a technician to come tomorrow. About half hour later I got a text from 855-226-6408. I called them and first of all when they answered they just said hello. When they asked for my name and address I asked why they were calling when I already have an appointment scheduled. He said something about seeing if they can resolve it. I gave him my name and address but that is all the information he got out of me. He had me check my modem a couple of times to see what lights were lit up. Since the Internet isn't working it wasn't a big deal to tell them the light wasn't working but when you kept asking me to do more stuff and check the modem I told him I had to go because I had an appointment. In the middle of typing this I got a call from [Edited: "Personal Information"]. When I answered it they asked me to hold so I hung up.ooked this up and found this post here. I wonder how they are able to know I called for technical assistance right after I did it?

Hello, @user_5eee9a, thank you for reaching out to us with this concern! So the good news is that we do have a team of people that will call out to our customers after they have scheduled an appointment to see if they can resolve the issue over the phone. If they can that is great, but if they cannot resolve the problem without the need to send a technician, they keep the appointment as is.

I made an appointment for a technician to come out tomorrow to check my line which is having frequent disconnects. Half an hour later I got a call from this same number mentioned in this post, [Edited: "Personal Information"]. They knew my information and spent several minutes repeating some weird information about how they were already "working on the main line" and they would solve any issues and it would be fixed within one week. They said they wanted to cancel my appointment tomorrow since they are already working on it. He just kept repeating that "they're already working on the main line" over and over. They did indeed cancel my appointment. If this is not a real Xfinity number then there is a serious security issue at Xfinity, or a scam where the contractors who are supposed to come out are getting paid by Xfinity for work they are not doing.

I hope one of the employees on this forum and investigate what's going on here.

Hey @jamseattle ,
As previously mentioned in this forums thread, we do have outbound contacts that reach out for preventable technician appointments. If you received a call, then the current conditions of the account, equipment, and local area recommended an additional reach out. If you are still experiencing issues, please let us know and we can assist in troubleshooting.

I too had a support technician come out who needed to create a different ticket to have some equipment replaced outside of my house.  I received a call from the number listed in this thread after he left.  Assuming it was from the second tier, I called it back. The number asked for my phone number and the person who came online knew I had an appointment yesterday. I only gave my name.  If this is a scam, xfinity either has an insider selling information to scammers or their systems are compromised.  I believe need better answers than given in this thread.  Is this actually Xfinity, or do I now need to change all of my MFA options on all of my accounts?

Same thing just happened to me!! Called and booked appointment with Xfinity.

Within two hours, got a call from [Edited: "Personal Information"]. I didn’t answer but when I called back got a thick Indian accent and no menu and it sounded sketchy so I hung up.

Then I call back and they have no record under someone doing that!

SOMEONE WITHIN XFINITY IS GIVING THE SCAMMERS THE INFO!!!
