Poor Decision to Drop Scripps

Hi Xfinity Team,

I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with your decision not to renew your contract with Scripps.

As one of the most expensive cable providers, Xfinity continues to increase rates while simultaneously reducing the value of its offerings. As a customer, I have the ability to make choices based on my budget—whether to keep or drop certain channels. It is frustrating that this same flexibility does not appear to be considered in your negotiations with content providers.

At no point were customers consulted on whether we would be willing to absorb a reasonable increase to retain access to these channels. Instead, the decision was made unilaterally, resulting in the removal of what many consider standard broadcast programming—not niche or premium cable content.

If Xfinity is choosing not to carry these channels, then it is only fair that customer billing reflects that reduction in service. I should not be paying premium prices for a diminished channel lineup.

I am requesting:

  1. A clear explanation of why this decision was made
  2. Information on whether Scripps programming will be restored
  3. An adjustment to my bill to reflect the loss of these channels

I value transparency and fairness, and I hope Xfinity will take customer concerns seriously in both its pricing and programming decisions.

Thanks for reaching out about the loss of channels owned by E. W. Scripps. This programming is currently unavailable as Comcast’s agreement with the network has expired. Please know Comcast pays programmers to bring you the entertainment you love, and a number of reasonable offers have been made that they haven’t accepted. Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. I know unexpected changes to your TV lineup can be frustrating, and I apologize for any inconvenience. Another reason why I’ll be canceling Comcast in the very near future.

Spot on except for one point.  The longer I don’t get CBS, the less I miss it.  Comcast and Scripps are both losers in this.

I am really frustrated with the decision not to renew Scripps.  In my area, where Xfinity is the only cable provider available, I am unable to receive CBS. Over half the programs I watch are on CBS. With what I pay currently for cable I can’t afford to pay for a streaming service to watch my programs the next day.  Please settle this contract dispute ASAP.  Years ago the saying was I want my MTV, well I’ve got a new saying, I WANT MY CBS.

I agree we need the channels back as well as explanation of why no prior notice given. Our fox 47 went off in middle of show and 5 mins later got email from Comcast. NO prior notification nor did anyone I talked to that was effected. Very bad customer service

I agree with comment.  It is a great suggestion to give a refund to us.  Your prices have gone up the past 2 months without explanation,  and now this without notice!  Please do something as soon as possible to resolve this situation.

I agree with this post, I want a refund! If CBS is not restored soon I will be canceling all Xfinity services. I think both companies are money hungry companies that need a listen in what true customer service should be going forward. We should have received a notice at the very least!

Disappointing. Time to look for a new provider if not resolved soon.

I 100% agree...I will be cancelling Xfinity shortly unless the service for ABC is restored. Also, they should be issuing a credit for the lost days since they have no problem indiscriminately increasing our charges.

user_e3urs5, Thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Support.

On March 31, 2026, at 5:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), Comcast’s agreement with E. W. Scripps to carry its programming expired. As a result, E. W. Scripps’s programming can no longer be carried by Xfinity or Comcast Business, including any related programming on Xfinity Stream and On Demand.

Comcast pays programmers to bring customers the entertainment, information, and sports they want. Comcast works to negotiate fair terms in order to ensure the greatest value for customers, given all the ways content can be accessed today. A number of reasonable offers have been made that E. W. Scripps hasn’t accepted. Comcast continues to work towards making this programming available again with fair pricing and terms for our customers.

E. W. Scripps owns and operates 40 broadcast stations nationwide in the Comcast footprint, including:

  • 19 Big Four stations (e.g., ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC), and
  • 21 non-Big Four stations (e.g., Independent).

For the full list of affected programming in your area, see xfinity.com/programmingchanges.

I’m looking into alternatives to Xfinity and plan to change. This is not the first time we have had channels removed from our service with no warning or reduction of service charges. If this is not fixed I’m done!
