Phishing scam in live chat
I was talking to a live agent about my Acp and was sent a phishing scam. It read as follows:
“Since you are from Xfinity you are eligible to Receive our "SIM CARD", It has unlimited text, calls and Unlimited Internet access. This AMAZING promotion as long as your IMEI is compatible or your device for this SIM CARD. As long your IMEI number or device is compatible your can take advantage this and enjoy our service for the unlimited text, unlimited calls and shareable data with unlimited wifi hot spot that you can connect for free since you are already ACP approve. So basically you will be having a free internet service and a mobile service. In fact there is no payment needed and it will be deliver in your address within 2-3 business days. You can use this to your Phone and Enjoy our mobile service“
He then asked for my birthday. I refused and asked for another way to verify since I was uncomfortable giving personal information after that text. He said:
“If you are not comfortable doing it through chat, You can call this phone number 855 846 8376 this is from our live customer service agent so that they can assist you for the application”.
that number is not associated with xfinity and 855 is an area code notoriously used for scammers.
