New Upgrade Modem/Gateway Installation

In order to avoid any devices in my home to be manually reconfigured, I would like to pre-configure the new modem for the the same SSID, DHCP, Gateway address, etc.
I have it plugged in, see the new SSID, enter the password, and am able to change all that, rebooted both the modem/gateway and my device. Attempt to connect to either the old address, or the new - not functioning. I can give my device an Manual IP address and able to connect again to the admin website, but it is ignoring any changes that I make.  If this is not possible, I would rather keep what I have.

Suggestions?

user_dxaudo Thanks for reaching out to us for assistance with your devices setting concerns. To confirm, are you using our equipment that was replaced and set up through the Xfinity app? Everything should transfer over from the old to the new when setup completes through the app using our equipment.

So, you are saying everything just magically configures, passwords and everything?

user_dxaudo The Xfinity app stores all your settings for the internet device, and when used to set up any new device it would use the old configuration unless you specify any changes you want to make. The IP address may change based on the new device, but network names and passwords would use the same as last device.

Thanks, but you said "The IP address may change based upon the new device"....  When you say the IP will change, do you mean the public WAN IP of the gateway device, or specifically the private inside LAN addresses?  If the LAN addresses change, it would be really horrible to have to go around and change all the IPs of my devices (printers, cameras, etc.)

user_dxaudo Yes, the LAN IP address can change when you swap gateways. This is because the new gateway may assign a different IP address to your device through the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). If the new gateway has a different DHCP configuration or if it is a new device, it may issue a new IP address to your connected devices. Additionally, if the previous gateway was using a specific IP range, the new gateway might use a different range, resulting in a change of the LAN IP address.

That won't work for any static assigned IP addresses that I have (printers). I would not only have to manually assign new addresses to those, but change the configurations on all my devices that print to them. I've done this before, and I specifically want to avoid that.

So, if that is the case, I'll pass on the new gw, the one I have is fine. Can I just return the new one to the store?
