Netgear CM1000 "This Device is not supported"

Hi,

I've been using a Netgear CM1000 that I purchased from Best Buy for a number of years.  I used it with Gigabit service, although I currently have 800Mbps Xfinity Service.  I have no technical issues.

I noticed when I go to the device compatibility site for my device "CM1000" is says "This device is not supported."

The Netgear CM1000v2 and Netgear CM1000-1AZNAS are both listed as being supported.

From what I can gather, the CM1000-1AZNAS is exactly the same as a CM1000 but just sold through a different vendor.

So should I be worried about using an unsupported device?   Is that a typo? or is my device truly unsupported?  If so, why?

Info from my cable modem status page:

Hardware: 2.02

Firmware: 7.01.01

I guess I just want to make sure I'll still get updates, etc.

I rebooted my cable modem and I get the following profile:

DS profile assignment change. DS Chan ID: 32; Previous Profile: ; New Profile: 1.;CM-MAC=xxx;CMTS-MAC=xxx;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1;

Hello, @mogulman, I am seeing what you're seeing so I think you’re good to go with your CM 1000. Our Xfinity My Device info tool shows the Netgear CM1000v2 and CM1000-1AZNAS as compatible. (just like you said!)  (https://comca.st/3K0KIq4) When I go to Netgear's page it also says the CM1000 is compatible with Xfinity. (https://comca.st/3ndG6mN) If your modem becomes End of Life, you will see communication about this by email alert or in the Xfinity My Account app.

... "CM1000" is says "This device is not supported." ...

They "clean house" occasionally. I've never seen them explain why any particular device was dropped from support or what it means for that device, beyond the generic info stated in https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/end-of-life-devices.

Sorry!

Yeah but the clean house theory doesn't sound likely.  I'm wondering if it's just a mistake.   I have an older cm600 that is still supported.   Maybe they aren't recognizing the full device info and thinking it's unsupported.

@BruceW, @mogulman, I apologize for the inconsistent information. When I use some internal resources, it also says a Netgear CM1000 is unsupported and was End of Life in July of 2021. My confusion was with the model numbers. If I am understanding everything correctly now the CM1000, the CM1000v2, and the CM1000-1AZNAS are three different modems. There seems to be a small difference in the hardware, that may be a reason why the CM1000 is now End of Life.

@XfinityJosephA Did they give you any reason it was EOL?   It is still being sold.   Like I said, I have a cm600 that I purchased 2 years before the cm1000 and it isn't eol.

For a modem like this that is EOL, does that mean it won't get any more firmware updates?    Or is it just not recommended to purchase?

The CM1000, appears to have originally come out in Dec 2016, and with technology changes, when something like this does go EOL, that just means it will not be able to support our software/firmware update information. You can continue to use it, just please do understand that you may encounter issues sooner or later that will require a newer modem.

Please remember also, that we do lease modems too and if something does go wrong with them, since they are ours, we will replace the equipment and not charge you for said /upgrade or replacement.

I no longer work for Comcast.

@XfinityKimberlyB "we do lease modems" LOL yes yes Comcast leases modems.  I purchased my CM1000 in 2017 paid $199. Comparing modem lease: (12months x 3years x $13) +(12months x 4years x $14 due to rate increase) -$199= $941 in savings. I will buy a new modem if my CM1000 fails to work or alternatively switch to a different provider. If your modem is EOL and you own clearly buck up and buy a new modem this calculation shows, however make sure you buy the newest modem on the compatibility list.

@XfinityKimberlyB

I'm having trouble maintaining a wifi internet connection. I also have the CM1000. Could the unsupported status of the CM1000 be affecting the performance of my router (Netgear 1750)? I can restart the router and have wifi for a while before the wifi can't maintain the internet connection. Internet still works if connected via ethernet, but not through wifi. Do I need a new modem or router or both? Also, this is all happening right after I received an email from Comcast indicating that my internet download speed was being raised from 200 to 300. I haven't been able to achieve the increased speed which I presume is related to the unsupported modem. But again, could that be causing the router issue?
