Need help: Cable burial was confirmed postponed, but contractor still arrived and damaged my newly hydroseeded lawn
Need help: Cable burial was confirmed postponed, but contractor still arrived and damaged my newly hydroseeded lawn
I'm hoping an Official Xfinity employee can help me resolve this because I'm not sure where to go from here.
Today (7/20/2026) at 10:16 AM, I received a text message stating that my cable line would be buried sometime between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. This was the first notice I received that excavation work would be taking place on my property.
As soon as I received the notification, I called Xfinity customer support because my lawn had just been professionally hydroseeded on July 15. I explained that digging through the yard would damage the new seed and asked if the cable burial could be postponed for approximately six weeks to allow the grass to establish.
The representative I spoke with was very helpful and confirmed that the cable burial had been postponed for six weeks. Based on that confirmation, I left for work believing the appointment had been canceled.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Around 11:54 AM, an authorized Comcast contractor still arrived at my home and began burying the cable line. My wife called to let me know someone was digging in our yard, so I immediately left work and arrived home around 12:13 PM.
By the time I arrived, the contractor had already:
- Begun digging through my freshly hydroseeded lawn.
- Walked across the newly seeded areas.
- Parked on the lawn.
I asked to speak with the contractor's supervisor and explained that Comcast had already confirmed the work had been postponed. The supervisor told me they never received any notification from Comcast that the job had been canceled or delayed.
The contractor stopped working after I arrived, so the cable still is not buried, but my lawn has already been damaged.
I have:
- Photos of the damage.
- Video footage.
- Call logs showing I contacted Xfinity immediately after receiving the notification.
- Documentation showing my lawn was professionally hydroseeded on July 15, just five days before this occurred.
I'm not upset with the contractor for following the work order they were given. My concern is that I was told the work had been postponed, but that information was never communicated to the contractor before they arrived at my property.
I'm requesting assistance with opening a property damage claim and having Comcast cover the cost of restoring my lawn. I would also appreciate help ensuring the cable burial is rescheduled only after my landscaping company confirms it's safe to do so.
Can an Official Xfinity employee please assist me with the next steps? Thank you.

Hello, @user_twi20 thank you for reaching out over Xfinity Forums. You've contacted the right place for assistance, and definitely understand wanting to get the damage to the yard addressed. Thank you for all the detailed information you've provided so far, it's really helpful as well as being able to provide additional photos/videos. I want to ensure that not only is the lawn able to get addressed, the remaining line work is able to get completed with it being delayed.
Assisting customers with similar issues, I've opened a damage claim ticket and then someone from damaged claim team follows up (so I would follow along on my end throughout the process).
Whenever I've opened a ticket, those start with the letters ECM. I know you had mentioned you had called in after the damage, when you called in was a damage claim ticket opened?
I worked with some customers who have reported submitting concerns online here, it will make you sign in with a Xfinity ID. If you ever don't have time to reach out to us here in the future, you can save this link: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/report-an-issue

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.
