Modem Scams

On December 8, 2021, I received a call supposedly from Comcast (originating from Norway) stating that there is a problem with my router and that it needs to be undated to 5G.  I was asked if I was having any problems with my Internet service.  Then I was asked if the light on my modem was solid or blinking.  This is not the first time that I have received these calls.  The calls are usually from somewhere in India, probably a call center; this is the first call from Norway.  After asking about the light on the modem, I am then asked for information so that my modem can be accessed.  This is when I hang up.  Perhaps, Comcast should put out an alert to all of its customers.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to actual Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

I am sorry to hear that happened to you. I would be very concerned with a phone call like this. The best course of action, in this case, would actually be to report this to our Customer Security Assurance. You can contact them calling CSA directly at Toll-Free Number: 1-888-565-4329.

"... Perhaps, Comcast should put out an alert to all of its customers."

A similar scam was reported at https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/customer-service/update-router-scam/61a4f00063ac0d5bf9fbed01.

Comcast posts examples of recent scams https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/alerts/ under "Comcast Security Alerts" and "Top Phishing Scams".

I received a similar call.  I asked if I could call her back.  she gave me a series of two digit numbers - clearly not the 3-3 7 sequence we would have  -  The number she gave me happens to be a medical center in Odessa TX.  Agree it would be good to get an alert of these scams

Hello, @user_6a0eb4. I appreciate you sharing the steps you had taken because it might help others, great thinking to ask to call back. Thank you so much for sharing your feedback! The link from awesome problem solver @BruceW is another fantastic recourse to cross-reference. And, if you happen to be an Xfinity Voice customer the Anonymous Call Rejection Feature may also help. Here is a quick refresher to use the Anonymous Call Rejection with Xfinity Voice.
