mac email app can’t no longer access my comcast email

After spending 2 1/2 hours yesterday and 1 1/2 hours today, the technicians were not able to explain why my ability to access Comcast email through my Mac mail app stopped working after 20+ years of flawless synchronization. All the representatives were shockingly unable to clearly articulate what the root cause of this problem is. They just kept telling me to access my email via the Xfinity website for an indefinite length of time. Completely unacceptable non-answer. According to Apple, all their customers with Comcast/Xfinity email accounts have been having the same problem without receiving a clear answer as to the cause and, most importantly, when the problem will be corrected and how we are going to be informed by Comcast/Xfinity. I find it unbelievable the lack of regard for how this issue impacts those who depend on having one mail app to manage all their email accounts, particularly work-related accounts. Are you, Xfinity/Comcast, going to compensate/refund me for services not rendered? If so, when and how? I expect an immediate reply to my inquiry.

I am sorry to hear that you are unable to access your email with the 3rd party apps. Have you already migrated your email to Yahoo? @aroldanf

I was never informed about such “migration”.

This is the 1st time I became aware this process.

How are you going to solve this problem promptly?

Please, explain in detail.

aroldanf The migration to yahoo mail is optional, though recommended. Can you clarify for me what the error is when you attempt to access your email via Mac mail app? ALso, can you share the troubleshooting steps you have already taken? We defintiely want to be respectful of your time and avoid asking you to repeat steps you may have already tried, such as ensuring that the third party access to your comcast email is toggled on.

Summary

Past Week:

  1. I have been unable to access my Comcast email through the Mail app on my MacBook Air.

    1. Contacted Apple Support:

      1. Apple determined that the issue was not related to the Mail app but rather to Comcast servers failing to recognize the account settings.

      2. I removed the non-functioning Comcast account from the Mail app.

      3. I attempted to reinstall the account; however, my credentials (password, incoming server, and outgoing server settings) were not recognized by Comcast’s servers.

      4. I was instructed to contact Comcast/Xfinity, as the issue was determined to be server-side.

      5. Apple customer service staff informed me that all customers with Comcast email accounts were experiencing the same malfunction.

    2. Contacted Comcast/Xfinity:

      1. On 1/20/2026, I spent approximately 2.5 hours on the phone with multiple technicians who appeared to lack the knowledge necessary to resolve the issue.

        1. They also refused to answer my question regarding the cause of the problem.

      2. After being transferred between multiple Comcast agents and repeatedly restating the same information—despite providing the Comcast claim number (IH266805171)—I was told that the issue would be resolved by the evening of the following day. I was promised a confirmation email once the issue was fixed.

      3. I never received the promised confirmation email.

      4. On 1/21/2026, I contacted Comcast/Xfinity again.

      5. After an additional 1.5 hours, none of the agents were able to provide a solution.

        1. The agents demonstrated a significant lack of understanding of the clearly described issue.

        2. I was repeatedly asked the same questions by the same agent, giving the impression that my responses were not being heard. This was a very bizarre experience.

        3. I was not provided with a solution or any information regarding:

          1. When the problem would be resolved.

          2. How I would be informed once the problem was fixed.

        4. After requesting escalation, I was issued an Escalation Ticket #: IH266830692.

  2. Contacted Apple Support for the Second Time:

    1. I described my experiences from both the previous day and the current day.

    2. The agent informed me that Comcast was migrating its email services to Yahoo!’s servers—information that had not been previously communicated to me by Comcast—and that this migration appeared to be the cause of the issue.

    3. The agent attempted to help me reconfigure my Comcast email account in the Mac Mail app using the following settings:

      1. Incoming server changed from imap.comcast.net to imap.mail.yahoo.com.

      2. Outgoing server changed from smtp.comcast.net to smtp.mail.yahoo.com.

      3. These changes did not resolve the problem.

  3. Current Status:

    1. I have no information regarding when—or if—the problem will be resolved.

    2. I have received no information regarding whether customers will be compensated for the inability to access Comcast email, a service for which I pay monthly.

Please, reply immediately.
