loss of email service

When the technician set up my email service with Comcast, I was assured that I could continue to use my att.net email address. That has worked for a few years now, but apparently the switch to Yahoo has cut me off from all email. The info you have on how to update my email (Apple Mail) doesn't match anything my computer is showing me, so rather than doing anything that might cause problems to get worse, I'm hoping you can tell me how to get my email--and, since hundreds of people have the att.net address, I want to get mail sent to that address. Thank you for any guidance. (I never did get a notice from you about the intended change -- but perhaps that is because of the att.net address, as well.) HELP.

user_84adkf Thank you so much for stopping in for help with your email. This conversion only impacted customers' Comcast.net email addresses. You may have had your att.net email address linked to be able to view your messages in one place, but changing to Yahoo would not have impacted your other providers' email accounts. If you never received the message, you may not have been changed yet, since each customer starts getting alerts 30 days before the change. Also, once your account has transitioned, there are terms that you would need to agree to complete the transition. If you by some chance did miss those notices, you would see an alert when you log in to your account at Xfinity.com.

Once transitioned, however, if your att.net email is still active with AT&T, you can link your Yahoo account to that as well.

No -- that doesn't answer my question really -- how do I do that? "Once transitioned?" How does that happen? I never got a notice, I just suddenly stopped getting email.  "You can link..." Again, how does one do that? As noted, it was the technician who set up my Xfinity account who did all this for me. I have no idea how to transition or connect.

And having spent half an hour at an Xfinity store today, with the person there having no luck accessing my email, I feel fairly confident that it's not really easy.

I wouldn't say that I "missed" the transition message -- I didn't get it. And I don't have another account. I have only the Comcast account and the technician set it up so that att.net could be a sub-account. There is a message to enter my Yahoo password, but I don't have a Yahoo password -- and I can't set one up because it will send an email to verify my identity -- but I can't get email.

All those emails have to be somewhere -- and on my Apple Mail program, when I click on the icon, it asks for my Yahoo password -- so clearly, on some level, the system knows that Apple Mail is where I access my mail. But how do I set up a Yahoo email password when I can't do the "forgot password" option because it relies on sending an email.

I apologize that you are having these issues. I am glad the store was also able to try to assist. As for clarification on how you would know about the transition, I was able to locate an FAQ section on our email page that may be more clear on how we provided alerts. Scroll down under the log in option and the help tiles to the Frequently Asked Questions. This section covers most of your concerns with the Xfinity transition.

Went to Xfinity store today, and after half an hour of trying to solve the problem, they sent me to AT&T. After an hour at AT&T, they suggested I try calling Yahoo. Called Yahoo, and they said Comcast has cut off the connection to their server -- I'll have to try to fix it with AT&T. Someone has to know how to fix this.

Just got a message that the system wants to sign me out. Does that end the conversation? Because the problem has not been resolved. But I can't imagine anyone will be working on this until midnight -- and I won't be waiting for an answer until midnight. I just hope that someone will still be addressing this and figuring out why it seems that nothing works. Thanks.

With this being Apple Mail and an att.net issue, we would not be able to provide much assistance. You may want to contact Apple support to see if Yahoo is just one of the emails you can use, or if it is asking you to set up a Yahoo email account. If you are still able to log in to your Xfinity email when you used the link above, you have not been transitioned yet. You may have had your Xfinity email forwarded to your att.net email address and used it as your contact information on your account, causing this confusion, but do not provide support for att.net email accounts if you are running into issues there and not at Xfinity.com

It is not an att account. It is a Comcast account, simply set up with the att address as a subaccount. As for the request above about checking for a transition email on my Comcast account -- there are only about five emails in the account that turns up when I sign in, so unless there is somewhere else to look, I have not received a transition notice -- just the request to sign in to Yahoo. Unfortunately for me, AT&T has also not been able to identify any account for me. Someone out there has the answer -- probably the technician who set up my Xfinity account but who is no longer in the area or doing this work.

user_84adkf, Thanks for providing this information. Are you able to send over a screenshot of that email request to sign in to Yahoo? Does the email request to sign in to Yahoo, include a link to the Yahoo’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for keeping your comcast.net email address?

Is there some way to send a screen shot without using email, since I can't use email?

user_84adkf, Great question. To send a screenshot, there is an "Insert Image" icon on the bottom of a "Cooment On This Post Here" box like in this link here. Please let me know if this helps.

I think I may have an answer for you regarding your att.net email and the Yahoo log in.  Your att.net email account was transferred at some point to Yahoo! Mail; it may have been a while back and you have forgotten about it.  Now, you have mentioned you were able to sign in to your comcast.net email successfully.  But, you say that att.net is a sub account of comcast.net.  Not really.  You just added it to the Comcast web interface so that you could get your comcast.net email and your att.net email all in one place.

I think what you're seeing [although I'm not certain because I can't see your screen] is when you log in at connect.xfinity.com with your comcast.net credentials, you're getting a popup from Yahoo to sign in to your att.net email as well.  Does this sound about right?

I don't know how the transition to Yahoo! Mail is going to affect your att.net in as far as receiving your att.net here.  Well, actually, I do.  You won't be able to.  You should start going to Yahoo and logging in with your att.net credentials to get your email.  At some point in the near future you will get an email at your comcast.net address [webmail] to migrate that over to Yahoo.  That official email from Xfinity will have the verified logo next to it so that you will know that it is a legitimate email from Comcast/Xfinity.  Here is information for you to check out:

Here is information regarding the transition to Yahoo! Mail:

And, from the Yahoo! page:

Most likely after you transition your comcast.net email to Yahoo! Mail, your att.net mail will be orphaned, and stranded, at Comcast forever because you won't be able to sign in to it, which is why you should start checking your att.net email at Yahoo.

Thank you. Just got an email from Xfinity that another password was reset during this (got the email because I now have email again). But if they have reset a password for another account, I can't help but wonder if that is now going to be a problem. Sign.

That is exactly what I've been experiencing for months.
