Looking to ugrade from an XB8 to an XB10

I've been looking to upgrade my XB8 to an XB10 for some time now and can't find a way to do so.

I upgrade my internet to the 2 Gbps and never got an option to upgrade when I heard it was being prioritized to the top tiers.

Either way, I've had to restart my XB8 in 2025 countless of times I lost count because of slow internet to losing my doorbells wifi to not having enough range for the backyard.

I've done it all to see if it needed a firmware upgrade to restarting it via the Xfinity App but now I'm hoping I'll get better performance with the XB10 over the XB8.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Hey there @GTXJB! The XB10 Gateway is currently reserved for customers in markets with symmetrical speed tiers (where upload and download speeds are equal, such as 1 Gbps up / 1 Gbps down or 2 Gbps up / 2 Gbps down). If your 2 Gbps plan is a 'mid-split' upgrade (e.g., 2 Gbps down / 200–350 Mbps up), the XB8 is still the standard compatible device for that tier.

@XfinityQuemekia thanks for the response.

So technically my area/region (Chicago metro area) still doesn't have the X Class internet?

Are we expecting this anytime soon so I'm able to upgrade to the XB10?

Thanks

That is a great question @GTXJB. We are actively expanding the network across the country, but the rollout is gradual. You'll want to check availability periodically.

Checking for X-Class availability is quick and easy!

Go to the official Xfinity availability checker at xfinity.com/planbuilder

  • Enter your full service address to view the specific plans and speed tiers available in your neighborhood.
  • Look for speed tiers that offer symmetrical speeds, such as 1 Gbps down / 1 Gbps up or 2 Gbps down / 2 Gbps up. These are the X-Class  options.

 I have the 1 Gbs tier and I was told over the week I would be able to receive a the xb10 modem on Saturday and drove 30 minutes to a store to be told that they don’t have the modem available. I called customer service to see what the confusion was and they continued to tell me that it was unavailable and I would have to wait till it becomes available to receive one. Why advertise for something that’s available for only customers that have the higher tiers just to have them run around for no reason.
