Landline says it is not in service

I purchased a landline service for my elderly mother to speak to us.  I purchased a brand new handset.  I got an new Xfinity modem.  But when I try to call it says the line is not in service when I dial the number Xfinity assigned to the landline.  HELP!  I went into the Xfinity store and it shows as activated.  Why isn't it working?

 • Type "Xfinity Support" in the To line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list
