It appears the buffering happens only on HBO Max. I am having the same issue as everyone else! Frustrating does not cover it!

HBO BUFFERING NIGHTMARE IS DRIVING US CRAZY! Buffers every minute, or just stops and

kicks us out of the app all together!

Hello, user_zgyf8g, and thank you for being part of the Xfinity Forums community! We know how important it is to enjoy your favorite streaming apps without interruptions, and we’re here to help troubleshoot any buffering issues. To start, check your internet speed and, if possible, switch to a wired Ethernet connection for better stability. Restarting your Gateway can also make a big difference. If buffering continues, try these steps:

Close other devices or background apps using your network.
Lower the video quality in your streaming app.
Restart both your streaming device and the app, then test again to see if performance improves.

We’re here to support you every step of the way—let us know how these steps work for you!

Massive amounts of buffering and audio cut-outs tonight. The standard steps for resolution presented by Xfinity are garbage and they should be working with HBO to fix the problem. Nothing worse than paying a hefty monthly subscription for 2007 buffering issues and commercials.

Hello @user_f9izqj, Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your day to leave a comment on our community forum and we would be happy to help. How long has this issue been going on for? Is this happening on any device that accesses HBO MAX?

The buffering on hbo max is terrible. Every one to two minutes the movie will freeze and other times, it will not load after a commercial. This only happens when watching hbo max via the Xfinity gateway on my tv.

user_8277a3 Is this happening on multtiple shows/movies or just certain ones? Do you see an error code or message come up as well?

@XfinityShawn it happens on every show and movie. There is no error code. It just freezes and sometimes starts again in a few seconds. Other times I have to exit the program and resume it. Last night. I tried to watch a movie and had to exit after every commercial break and resume to get the movie to play again.

This happens to me when I use my xfinity tv box's hbo max app - every few minutes the shows or movies pause. Everywhere else I use the hbo max app, including my smart phone with home wifi xfinity internet, it works fine with no buffering. Another instance of xfinity being so frustrating.

user_i8iaql, hello there and thanks for reaching out. I want to apologize about your experience. I understand the need for those applications because I use them almost daily myself. Have you performed any self started troubleshooting?

Same issue, watching live sports is even more maddening, now worse after I did every one of the troubleshooting fixes - now every 3-10 seconds.  It is not happening on my iphone with Verizon, so it's not my internet.  Another option I saw on Xfinity support was to go the local Xfinity store and get a new box.  This is take at least half a day.

@user_iyzgv2 I am sorry to hear you are having the same issue. Have you swapped boxes?

I have the same problem.  It's painful to watch HBO Max on my television equipped with Xfinity.   Constant freezing and buffering with every show.  This is clearly an Xfinity issue.  It doesn't happen in my Roku tv.

We want to get Max streaming smoothly on your Xfinity box @user_dwz739! While it is frustrating that this is happening on one TV and not your Roku, freezing and buffering on specific apps is usually caused by a built up data cache or an outdated connection between the box and our network.

Here are a few quick troubleshooting steps to fix this:

Clear the App Cache
  • Open the menu: Press the Xfinity button on your remote.
  • Go to settings: Select the Gear icon, then choose Privacy.
  • Clear data: Select Clear Cookies and Local Data, then press OK to clear out the app's hidden memory logs

Perform a System Refresh
  • Voice command: Say "System Refresh" into your Xfinity voice remote.
  • Confirm the fix: Select Refresh Now to restart your box and update its internal signal connection.

Let us know if this works.

In privacy settings there is no select clear cookies and local data. Do you mean select Locally stores data?

Thank you for confirming that @user_ssdrhk, I appreciate it.

Could you please select the “Clear locally stored data” option and let us know if that helps resolve the issue?

I did the two things you suggested and it did not solve the problem.  HBO MAX is still uncontrollably buffering and freezing.  What next?
