I work 3rd shift ... How do i get notified of scheduled Xfinity Internet system maintenance outages?

I work the 3rd shift ... How do I get notified (or register for such Xfinity Internet notification) of scheduled Xfinity Internet system maintenance outages?

EXPECTATION:

I am under the assumption that I should be able to register for Xfinity Internet email and/or text messages to provide lead-time notification that there are scheduled maintenance and upgrades that will cause Internet outages.  Please stop surprising us with unproductive work-time Xfinity system-wide Internet outages.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Hello, @user_y2j7b8! Thank you for creating a post with your service interruption concerns and notification questions. With so many working from home these days, I completely understand the need for as many details ahead of time as possible. And you've come to the right place! Our team is awesome at finding the latest information available, and it's my pleasure to help in any way that I can. Please see this article for more info about proactive notifications and how to receive them. Of course, I always recommend also utilizing the Xfinity App along with our Status Center for even more details when experiencing service issues. Please let me know if this helps! We appreciate your patience while any maintenance is being completed, and I remain hopeful for upgraded services in your area!

Two follow-on questions to your reply please:

1) What are the steps to Post Publicly?

(Sorry but I am 1st-time user of this Community Forum)

2) I verified on the my Android Xfinity appl'n that both my cell phone and email are registered for messages.

Unfortunately in my attempt to enable a "Notification of Schedule of Future Planned Outages" (not sure this exists ... BUT this is what I require to stay productive) ..., I can find no such option to choose or enable.   Per your online support articles, all I could find for text notification enablement are per the Use Text Alerts article + exmples.

  • QUESTION:   Can you please redirect me to the article or provide steps to enable an Alert Notification (text & email) for "Notification of Schedule of Future Planned Outages" (not sure this exists ... BUT this is what I require to stay productive) ?

Thx,  tim

====== NOTE:  This is all I could find on "Use Text Alerts" =======================================================================

Great questions! You can find the Xfinity Forums Guideline here.

You can use the Xfinity app or visit https://www.xfinity.com/support/status to sign up for updates (when there is an existing interruption) or by texting OUT to 266278 (COMCST) to check for interruptions in your area. (Data and messaging rates may apply.)

To Whom It May Concern,

OVERVIEW OF UNANSWERED QUESTION = CLARIFICATION:

Thanks for clarifying how the OUT + 266278 is acceptable for the current outage in real-time, which is not what I need.  That is like a car without a fuel gauge ... and I cannot predict and plan my 3rd shift workload in the evening during the coming week .... until a scheduled system maintenance and/or update occurs (ie my car metaphor ... I only know when I need gas in my car when it has already run out of gas)!  By then, it is too late, and I will have to wait 2-6 hours for the PLANNED-SCHEDULED maintenance to complete before continuing my online internet work!   The answer you provided me above DOES NOT PROVIDE future XFINITY internet downtime planning where I can rearrange my workload around planned-schedule Xfinity Internet downtime for SCHEDULED SYSTEM MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES (which typically occur during 3rd shift!!!).

COMMENT:

Many 7x24x365 operations require business continuity of their online systems ...such as hospitals, public health and safety/security operations, and infrastructure and business/residential security systems.  All these mission-critical operations require high-availability systems operations.

CLARIFYING QUESTION:

I want to get at least a 2-day warning for Xfinity Internet FUTURE-SCHEDULE for Internet System Planned Maintenance DOWNTIME (i.e., typically 2 to 6-hour duration!!!).  Can you provide me on an ongoing basis with a calendar of dates & time slots where Xfnity is planning and scheduling their INTERNET SCHEDULED SYSTEM MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES induced outages, downtime, and loss of online internet productivity?

Often times, planned maintenance is scheduled upon recognizing current signal issues requiring maintenance. At this time, there is not a calendar containing dates and time slots pertaining to scheduled maintenance @user_y2j7b8.

We typically try to put a banner in the Xfinity app and on our site (while signed in to the account) with an alert on upcoming notifications. At this time, signing up for notifications from 266278 is the only other option to receive proactive alerts when available. Proactive alerts may not be available when planned maintenance is scheduled as a result of unexpected interruption repairs requiring more attention than initially expected.

I am disappointed that Xfinity will only provide real-time alerts to schedule planned Xfinity system internet outages (2-6 hrs).   Totally worthless to 2nd and 3rd shift workers since that is where we only receive real-time alerts (ie 30 min to 60 min).  And Xfinitys' 2 hr to 6 hrs planned system maintenance / update outages average 1/2 shift loss of productivity ... at 100% 7x24x365 availability charges.

As a car metaphor, it is like not providing a gas gauge status of full-vs-empty measurement ... instead, you only notify me when that gas tank is fully empty when it is too late to perform ANY proactive alert notification so we can take proactive planning & action to avoid an undrivable car-situation.

Xfinity Internet System Administrators chose ONLY alert is in real-time .... AND refuse to not provide plans more proactively via an email or SMS proactive notification that there is a xx hour(s) of planned outage in 2-3 days at this time-date... so we can shift and plan our workload accordingly to maintain our workload productivity! ... even though Xfinity charges me as if your internet services are 100% available 7x24x635,  I have never received a planned-scheduled Xfinity Internet downtime credit-discount.  Or another equivalent is that I can delay on-time payment based on the combined total planned Xfinity Internet accumulated downtime system unavailability (i.e., loss of availability that I am paying for).

Thank goodness Starlink's availability is covered by overlapping (satellite) coverage and is not afflicted by scheduled-planned internet availability as a growing alternate competitive option to Xfinity's limited sense of customer service + productivity concerns.  Plus, Starlinnk works fine even amidst a military conflict, in the open oceans, on commercial airliners .... now that is high system availability + sustained productivity!
