I have new internet plan and their gateway, however...

Scanning for WiFi with iPhone, I see that I am a Xfinity Hot Spot.   I do not want that.  I went to my account and disabled it.   I have read comments that it sometimes reactivates.

When I was upgrading I asked Sales Associate if I can use my old store bought Cable Modem, it can handle the higher speed.  She said I would have to pay for the unlimited if I used it.

Is this true?  I don't mind the extra cost.    She lied to me that day about another issue.  Perhaps I could make a small Faraday Cage,  Gateway is set to Bridge Mode.

Hello @Larry1229 . If you are connecting to one of our Xfinity Hotspots then you can do forget network in your device settings to prevent the phone from connecting automatically when you are near one of our hotspots. If you want to disable the hotspot in your gateway you can follow the steps here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/disable-xfinity-wifi-home-hotspot

You can always use your own modem. Some older plans you would pay $30/mo extra for unlimited so in those situations the rental is slightly less. Some of our newer promos may include the unlimited in the plan even with a new promo. That's definitely something we could check for your specific account if you want.

I guess I wasn't clear,   I believe and have read comments that the Xfinity Modem I brought home and hooked up  is also a Hotspot.  I clicked on disable on my account and allegedly it will stop  being a HotSpot at my residence, even though some comments say it sometimes reactivates. Sorry

You are correct in that if you have an Xfinity gateway it will broadcast a secure Xfinity hotspot from it by default that is completely separate from your primary home Wi-Fi network. It just serves as a nice way for guests or anyone near the gateway to connect to secure internet without impeding or impacting on your services in any way whatsoever. You do have the ability to disable the hotspot tied to your specific gateway at any time via the instructions we provided above, but keep in mind your devices may still be detecting other hotspots that'll appear as the same xfinitywifi network name under available networks if there are any in range outside your own.
