How to SPEAK with customer service?

Does anyone know  a number to call to SPEAK with someone from customer service? The 800-934-6489 number just keeps re-directing you to online CHAT, they will not let you SPEAK to a person. Does Verizon or AT &T treat their customers this way.  I should probably give them a chance to take my money....

That is my understanding. [Edited: Language]. I'm looking around now. They will only understand when they start losing MONEY. Period. Losing customers is losing money.

I am having this issue myself. A runaround online. Im looking for other providers already. Loyal customers for years don't mean a single thing.
