How to reach customer support?

I tried using the Xfinity Assistant to ask about gigabit x10 support in my area, but all I got back was unhelpful responses. I checked the forums, and they mentioned clicking the DM icon in the top right corner (next to the notification bell). However, I don’t see that option. How can I actually send a direct message to a real person?
