How can I upgrade my router from XB3 to XB7

I currently have the Performance Select Internet Plan and the XB3 (DPC3941T) router. I would like to upgrade to a more modern router; one that has VLAN support so I create sub networks. I need a router that has both 2.4 and 5GHz and I need the router to have a minimum of 4 ethernet ports. It looks like the XB7 would satisfy my needs. The page to customize internet equipment doesn't allow you to specify which model number you want. It only shows that you can add an "xFI Gateway" and says nothing about which one. What do I have to do to get an upgrade to a XB7?

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Hello and welcome to Comcast @user_6no4hv. Thank you so much for reaching out to us about your concerns of upgrading your modem. You are in the right place and we are happy to assist you today. There are two options to get the modem upgraded. We can ship you one from our side or you can visit the local comcast store near you. You can visit Find an Xfinity Store and enter your address to see the closest store near you.

Typically, the Xfi Gateway you receive is based on the speed tier of internet you have. The XB3 would be compatible with your current internet speed tier, but I completely understand wanting more ethernet ports @user_6no4hv.

Our local Xfinity stores should have each xFi Gateway in stock. Although, they may not be able to upgrade your current XB3 to the XB7 due to your speed tier not requiring an XB7.

It may be better to look at purchasing an ethernet switch to increase the number of ethernet port you have. Alternatively you could purchase a personal modem and router so you can have more control on your network settings. Our My Device website is really quick and easy way to view compatible modems.

It's not the number of ports; I already have 4 ports which is sufficient. It's the VLAN support of the XB7 that the XB3 lacks.

It never hurts to ask, but you may have to upgrade the speed of the home service to get the XB7. They would be able to tell you after reviewing your account. We can also check here if you like before going to the store.
