grounding wire connected to hose bib

We need to remove an old and no longer working copper pipe hose bib. There is an old green grounding wire from the exterior of the house cable box to the faucet. I understand this is an old school way to ground the box but it is incorrect not to mention the fact that the faucet could no longer function as a ground anyway. How do I ensure I will not do anything by removing the faucet and therefore grounding wire from the cable box?
