Functional provisioned XB10 replaced with XB8 during tap troubleshooting — requesting restoration
Xfinity originally supplied and activated an XB10 for my account. During a September 10 visit for latency and upload issues, the technician replaced it with an XB8 as a troubleshooting step. According to the technician, the underlying problem was a filter at the shared tap, not a faulty gateway. But he took away the XB10 and left the XB8 at my home, even though before he came the XB10 was online and providing Internet service.
An addiitonal maintenance ticket is addressing that separately, with further work scheduled for September 13.
The XB8 now provides Internet, but my previous home-network functionality has not been restored. I lost the Wi-Fi 7 and 10GbE connectivity my LAN setup relied on. I have acquired devices with 10GbE and WiFi7 interfaces to work with XB10. On the same Galaxy S26 Ultra in the same location, Wi-Fi speeds dropped from approximately 1,000/80 Mbps to 780/50 Mbps. Wired download performance remains similar, and upload now reaches about 117 Mbps. This is a noticeable downgrade in actual use.
The technician who was onsite on Sep 10 told me this area is expected to receive FDX later this year. Chat support cited FDX eligibility and said there was no option to ship another XB10. However, they also explained that future-FDX locations may receive XB10s in advance and said this could explain my original assignment.
Could an Xfinity employee review my original equipment assignment and help me get an XB10 back? I’m not requesting a faster plan or an additional upgrade—just restoration of the gateway capabilities and home-network setup Xfinity previously provided. The frustration comes from an already-provisioned and functional XB10 being retracted and causing user experience downgrades.
Thank you for your help!
