Fraud Incident Involving Xfinity Customer Support Number (800-266-2278)
Dear Xfinity/Comcast Team,
I am writing to report a serious fraud incident that occurred through what appeared to be an official Xfinity customer support number: 800-266-2278.
Because the representative provided me with a name and ID number, and all communications—including calls, texts, and verification codes—used the Xfinity logo and format, I had no reason to suspect it was fraudulent. The communication exactly mirrored my past legitimate experiences with Xfinity, including previous interactions for cancellation, reactivation, ID merging, and account separation.
As a result of this incident, two unauthorized payments were successfully made through my account:
$87.91
$162.56
Yesterday, I noticed unusual activity and immediately cancelled my card. However, today I discovered a further attempted charge of $999 for an iPhone 16 Pro, which fortunately was not processed.
I promptly reported this to Xfinity, but I was deeply disappointed to receive no support, empathy, or even a case number.
Even now, if I call the same phone number (800-266-2278), the greeting still says:
“Thank you for calling Xfinity.”
To this day, I have not received any official communication from Xfinity regarding this incident—no email, no phone call, no letter—and no warning to customers about possible data breaches or scams targeting Xfinity users.
I believe Comcast/Xfinity has a responsibility to take this matter seriously and respond with appropriate action.
Until then, I will be sharing my experience with others—both personally and on social media—to raise awareness and advise against using Xfinity services until proper security and accountability measures are in place.
Sincerely,
Hannah
