Fee to replace modem?

Hi I am considering purchasing my own modem. One reason I might continue to rent from Comcast is potential replacement cost. Can someone tell me if Comcast charges a fee to replace their own modems if there is a malfunction or customer damages it?

Hello @user_81de98! Renting can be a great option for our customers who want an all-in-one device that delivers internet and voice connectivity, whole-home Wi-Fi coverage, network security, control, and speed for the ultimate connected experience. In addition to providing 24/7 customer support, regular software updates are pushed to all devices to ensure that you have the latest technology and optimized internet experience on your gateway. There is no fee to replace our modems if they malfunction. Customers should return damaged equipment to an Xfinity Store. We do charge fees for unreturned equipment. If you rent one of our devices and wonder whether it's time to update to a newer model, visit www.xfinity.com/equipmentupdate.  You are also allowed to purchase your own equipment. Before purchasing your own equipment, confirm it's approved for use with Xfinity services and can achieve the maximum capability of your subscribed speed tier.
