Day 7 of internet outage

We are in Portland Oregon zip code 97223 and have not had internet service for 7 days. Xfinity online states once power is restored cable lines will be fixed. Our power was restored 4 days ago! When will we have internet? I work from home and have lost 5 days of wages. I can’t even call Xfinity and speak to anyone live. It’s just a recorded message and then hangs up. Not good enough! Need answers now!

I have a guess on what's happening. Much of the Comcast network is located on PGE poles. Even though power is restored, a lot of that was temporary fixes. Now PGE is going back and putting it right. PGE doesn't want Comcast on their poles until the more permanent repairs are made. Comcast doesn't want to fix lines that might be moved by PGE. Comcast isn't forthcoming because the situation underscores how Internet is a public utility and should be regulated like one. That's my guess, but what do I know?

Has anyone received an eta on the restoration of internet for 97230? I know that weather is listed as one of the things that is ineligible for an account credit, but 9 days without internet service?! I don’t think I should have to pay for all the days since the storm that they could have fixed things. Also, the fact that there has been Zero communication I’m about timelines for when service will be available again is appalling. This is some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.

@user_8lmub9 The ETAs are meaningless. I've gotten three ETAs in the last 2 days of my service being restored by a certain time and guess what... end of day 9 still no internet.

@user_8lmub9 we’re in the same boat  in 97230. no answers and no real way to reach anyone. We’re research new providers.

@user_8lmub9 I am in 97239, same situation. The ETAs are officially useless to me. They kept pushing back the dates. Today's weather is sunny, I was hoping they'd be able to fix the issue, but nope. [Edited: "Inflammatory"]

Nope.. just the endless empty promises.. followed by “nothing we can do about it” then repeat:

Channel(s), Legacy TV, Internet, On Demand outage detected

We're aware that you may be experiencing a service interruption and are working to resolve the issue by approximately 01/22/2024 03:05 PM (Pacific). We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

I’m willing to take my comments down for any real help at all, proper eta times, or non bot responses… thank you.

On Reddit, someone posted that the system wouldn't allow them to apply for credit for more than 7 days of outage. Anyone who has had their service restored run into this fun issue too?

So with out internet for days now. Power last went out on Thursday and was back in the next evening. Still no Internet, no update, no ETA. I too work from home and my neighbors with Centrylink are fine. I'll be cancelling my service.with Xfinity and changing to CenturyLink after this experience. Never have I ever seen anything this bad.

@user_9d37gl - I'm sorry to learn you've been impacted and are unable to enjoy your Xfinity services! It's possible power could be restored to homes but our network serving your neighborhood is still without public power, which must also be restored before your services can work properly. In those situations, we ask for your patience — our teams work hard to get our services back up and running so you can be connected again. The best way to get interruption updates for your area and information about your service is to visit the Xfinity Status Center or use the Xfinity app. And, be sure your mobile phone number is registered for Xfinity text alerts for text notifications.

Use the app?  Don’t have internet. I love how all Comcast responses refer you to the internet that they can’t provide access to

can totally see where you are coming from, @linda_d! I felt the same way as I was in your shoes before. However, I was lucky to still have mobile service and was able to check on the status of the interruption using my cellphone signal. Do you currently use mobile service at this time for checking the XFINITY app?

Waiting, waiting, waiting here too

(97239). Power was restored on 1/20/24 a little after noon. Still no cable /internet. Worse yet, absolutely zero communication about when it will be restored. Those half a mile from me had internet as soon as power was restored. Fun fact: I have Xfinity mobile and my bill is going to be exorbitant due to this. I also am one who works from home- but can't actually work from home due to this epic service failure. Please provide timelines for restoration as well as restitution for services paid for, but not provided- and free mobile data for this time period as well.

Day 6 of internet outage at 97219.  No updates from Xfinity. Is Century Link down?

3 Messages

I've seen trucks and vans in the 97221 area this morning. Hopefully, today is the day for most/all of us.

I have a neighbor with CenturyLink and they said they barely had any service disruption despite power and internet lines being taken down by a fallen tree! I’m seriously considering switching to CenturyLink because of how terrible this experience with Comcast has been.

Customers, please apply for outage credits, call customer service, and request changes to your bill, etc!

I have been experiencing the same issues as everyone else on this post and the other Portland outage forum post. The way xfinity/comcast has handled this has been egregious. Not allowing PAYING CUSTOMERS to speak to a live customer service representative because you are afraid of being overrun by angry customers searching for the answers they deserve is completely out of line and disrespectful. Many people rely on the internet to WORK. My fiance and I work remotely and I've had to reach out to xfinity 4 times via Twitter DM's to ATTEMPT to speak to an actual person from Xfinity. However, reaching out on Twitter provided the same canned responses we have all been receiving. Their inability to even provide the location(s) or CAUSE of the outage is very sad. As someone who has worked in telecom and currently works in cloud technology, I probably have a better understanding of networking outages than other customers, so I expected a short delay for internet restoration after PGE restored power. I even stayed an extra night in a hotel. I did not expect 5+ days of no internet WITHOUT EXPLANATION. Keeping customers in the dark is the worst way to handle ANY issue. We called Xfinity Mobile to request a data increase (even though we have unlimited, it is throttled/slowed at 20GB of usage) since we have been using our hotspot to try to get by without an internet connection. The mobile support person was very helpful and increased our plan for no extra charge this month. He was also ASTONISHED at how long we have been without an internet connection. I think your own colleagues being disappointed and surprised by your actions speaks volumes.

1/23 -- As I was leaving my house today, I saw two xfinity vehicles in my area (97221). I expect our connection to be restored soon but this is not over, by any means.

@user_aa3917 I filed a complaint and did indeed get a call. Too bad I was working and told him to call me back, which he never did. Surprise surprise.

Day 11 of Xfinity internet down in 97209 area code. They keep saying they will text updates, but have yet to receive one. They act as if the small amount of snow and ice we got was the storm of the century, when it Was Not! Ineptitude and a lack of caring are the culprits here, or at the very least they would have sent out the occasional update. So angry!!

Day 11 of our Xfinity outage here. What's going on? No contact has been made from Xfinity and ETA has been provided at any point. 28 hours ago, I managed to convince the voice support assistant to connect me to a rep on the phone after saying "speak to a representative" five times, counterintuitively against its prompts. (This tactic only works sometimes. Other times, it tells me I can't receive support during an outage and hangs up on me.) The rep told me that they have no information about ETA, but that we'd have internet restored within 24 hours (go figure how that makes any sense).

Good evening @user_hpun6b, we're glad to hear that your service is back up and running. We understand wanting a credit for your time without service. If you were affected by a recent service interruption, you may be eligible for a credit to your account.

    • To get started, check your eligibility for a credit here https://www.xfinity.com/support/account-management/credits/outage/details.
    • If your account meets all requirements for eligibility, including not having reached the maximum credit limit, a credit will be applied automatically.

If you run into any issues receiving your credit, please let us know.

Thank you for reaching out to us @joyus! We regret to hear your services are still offline. We are in talks with the local teams and they are the ones that have advised us of the delays due to weather issues. The Portland field teams have requested additional support from out of state field teams to assist with repairs.

The majority of jobs are in a holding status until the field teams are given clearance to begin repairs in affected areas. Commercial power failures, infrastructure damage, and freezing temperatures are impacting restoration time. We do not have any updates because there is no additional information available at the moment. We understand this is frustrating, and we truly wish we had more information to provide at the time but we do not.

Primary services like water, sewage, electric, emergency services, etc. take priority over telecommunications in these situations and we're not allowed to begin repairs until we're given the all-clear, which is why you do not see techs out working in many areas. We will only have our technicians work under safe working conditions and the weather currently does not allow for that.

Several providers are out as a result of the storm, there has been damage to main fiber lines but again, in many areas, we are not even permitted into the area to make repairs yet. While you may have power in your home, the plant that provides service to your home may not and just because you do not see trucks, does not mean techs are not working.

Comcast Oregon will have the latest updates when they become available.

in 97223

Hi, it's Xfinity Assistant.
Our teams are continuing to make progress on our network repairs after recent storms across Oregon. We expect to restore your services by 1/26, as we regain access to necessary parts of our network. As a reminder, we cannot begin our work until power is restored to both your home and our network servicing it, and the area is confirmed to be safe. Thank you for your patience.

@user_8mgjb8 I got the same text! This is ridiculous. They keep pushing back the dates, and then now announce it's the entire week! I've lost trust in their messages.

I got the 1/26 text too (for 97219) along with the following:

Hi, it's Xfinity Assistant.

Your service interruption should be resolved by 01/24/2024 12:45 AM (Pacific). We're working quickly to get you up and running again and will text you once your service is restored.

Txt help or stop

So confusing. I hope it's later tonight but fear is going to be 1/26 (and sadly expect nothing will happen either tonight or by 1/26).

Thanks for letting us know, @user_zc4ns5. ETA's for service restoration will vary by area. If you have an ETA of 01/24/2024 at 12:45 AM (Pacific). Our team will do their best to get the services up and running by then. However, keep in mind that this is an estimated timeframe, there's always a chance that it will vary/change. Any additional updates will be provided on our Xfinity App, via text notification or by visiting our Xfinity Status Center

I also can’t believe Xfinity isn’t offering to provide free internet through cell towers during the outage. They could have sent us all a usb stick that connects to towers that we could use during the outage. Other ISPs have done this in the past during outages!
