Customer Servide Representative Asked for my Social

Today, September 8, 2026, I called the Xfinity customer service line to ask a question about my recent billing statement. The person who answered seemed very helpful, and then they asked for me to open my keypad on my phone and enter my birthdate without saying anything. I was a little confused and suspicious at first, but I complied. Then, they asked for my social security number. When I asked why they need my social, the representative said it is to verify my account. I explained I am not comfortable giving my social, and they said it is secure and it’s a normal part of the process. I do not think this is normal. They assured me they couldn’t see what I enter, but I ended the call anyways. I have read other people’s accounts of this happening, and I want a resolution for this. Xfinity please reach out to me and answer my billing questions without my social security number. I had already confirmed my address, first and last name, and the representative read off the last 4 digits of my linked banking account for automatic payments so they obviously had my account pulled up just fine.
