Connection issues when gaming - random speed drops and packet loss

Hello all,

I’ve been going in circles with various techs and live chat people for a couple weeks now. I got my internet setup close to three weeks ago, and I’ve had issues the entire time when gaming.

Probably 90% of the time, the internet is perfect. Speeds are great, ping is good, and everything is running smooth.

Randomly throughout the day and night, my internet goes to complete crap and is unplayable in any game for chunks at a time.

Rocket League is the easiest to tell. Will play for an hour perfectly fine, and then randomly will have high latency and packet loss for close to half an hour to an hour where every game is unplayable. It’ll then go back to normal randomly as well, with no input from me.

Two techs have visited. One changed a splitter and ran a new cable saying that was the issue. That did nothing.

Live chat then said I need to try the gateway over my equipment because it may be my equipments fault. Tried that, still the same problems, didn’t help.

The second tech came and messed with the gateway and then was annoyed when I said I plan to use my equipment since both had the same issues. We want back to my stuff, tested speeds, and as it normally is, everything tested fine and signals looked good.

He said there is nothing they can do because it looked good, and because I have my own equipment they can’t escalate it to anyone because they don’t know if it’s my equipments fault (even though gateway had all the same issues).

I’m just tired of going in circles. Every day there are chunks of time my download speeds drop by 40%+ and games are unplayable from packet loss and connection issues.

All they do is check signal and say “yep looks normal, nothing we can do”.

I can’t do this for two years, there has to be a fix for this somehow.

Same exact issue here, nothing has helped. Can't even log into the Comcast account I made a week or so again to talk to these people. For some reason it made me make a new account. Bought a new Modem, tested routers, etc nothing works. No I will not post my signals when I've had two techs out here in less than a year, with one out here a week or so ago that said nothing was wrong with my signals. It's something on your end, closer to the CMTS and yet you won't look into it.

@SanMar63 I just don’t know where to go. The newest suggestion was to increase my speed so when it slows down I’m still able to play games. That makes sense.

just a constant runaround with no real answers provided.

Hi @SanMar63 and @adwaggoner, I'm sorry to hear that you both are having issues.

@adwaggoner you mentioned that you are specifically seeing this while gaming, is there any packet loss that occurs when you are not gaming?

@SanMar63, we would love to work on this for you, and the signal data is useful to us. No pressure, but we genuinely would like to make sure that your packet loss issue is addressed.

I no longer work for Comcast.

Same issues here, HORRIBLE connections even with the gig plan!!!!

  1. New xfinity modem
  2. Cat 7 wired directly to modem
  3. Latency 90 to 200
  4. New xbox series x

All a WASTE of money running on xfinity!

@user_b53f00 I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing these internet issues as well. Just to confirm, are you only or mainly seeing these issues on your Xbox Series X when gaming, or are you experiencing internet issues on your other devices as well?

I no longer work for Comcast.

Hi  XfinityChristopher

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

Just to confirm, are you only or mainly seeing these issues on your Xbox Series X when gaming, or are you experiencing internet issues on your other devices as well?

I only play UFC 3 on my Xbox Series X, I don't play other games.

I don't experience other issues on other devices because I don't play games on other devices.  I do know 100%, that playing games with this Internet is horribly slow.  The latency is a big problem.

Download speeds are not an issue, I get between 500Mbs and 800Mbs and uploads of 20Mbs, but latency is clearly problematic for online gaming.

As mentioned, these are brand new devices, with CAT 7 wired connection directly to the modem.  The issue is lag, major major lag.  It's as if playing this game is like sucking peanut butter through a straw! :)

Thanks for helping here.
