Connecting a laptop to Xfinity Hotspot

I know that the old style Xfinity hotspots were retired in Dec. 2023 (I think).  This past Friday, I took my wife to a medical appt., and brought my laptop with me.  The office did not have wifi, but I looked for connections and xfinity turned up as one of the hotspots detected.  I connected to it (didn't log in).  I tried the web, and after a few minutes a Xfinity web site popped up, telling me I had to sign up for something (don't remember what).  Anyway, how can I connect my laptop to xfinity when away from my house?

As a side note, this morning I was using my laptop, and it would only open certain web sites (couldn't go to any news sites).  I checked my connection and was surprised that I was connected to xfinity and not my locally generated private wifi signal from Xfinity.  I guess it was the xfinity generated from my modem (each modem generates two signals).  So I connected to my private wifi and that fixed the problem.

So what do I do to connect when away from my house (if an xfinity signal is available)?

Hello @littlepeaks to connect to the Hotspots you will click the Xfinity Wifi like you did then it should prompt you to sign in. If it doesn't have you sign in forget the network and try again. Assuming you are within range of the modem broadcasting the hotspot you should stay connected.

To check where hotspots are you can use our XFinity Hotspot Map.

That second image "NOW  Get connected with a NOW Wifi Pass" is what I saw.  What is a NOW Wifi Pass?  Never heard of it before.

The hotspot access is included for free when you subscribe to our internet service at home using your Xfinity ID to access them.

The NOW Wi-Fi Pass is an option for people that don't subscribe to our in home internet. They can pay $10/mo to get access to the Hotspots only.

That link I sent if you scroll down below those images you will see the option for a zip code to search for Hotspots.

So you're saying that even though I'm an Xfinity customer, I have to pay $10 a month to access the hotspots?  (Sorry -- it's not clear to me).

No you are covered and don't need to pay the $10/mo. Hotspot access is included with your plan. That image is just an advertisement.

I took my wife to the medical appointment again today.  I discovered that in the upper portion of "NOW" there is a link that asks if you are already an Xfinity customer (I didn't see that before).  I clicked on the link, and it automatically connected -- it didn't even make me log in.  Thanks --

The concern is not "accessibility / disability" help related............ Topic moved here to the proper help section.
