Confused about passwords to use when Comcast emails are "migrated" to Yahoo

I received the invite to move to Yahoo and I am reviewing the instructions at

 https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN36803.html

Part of the initial steps for migration is creating a NEW STRONG PASSWORD

  • One has to sign in at yahoo.com with one’s full Comcast.net email address and password
  • as shown in first video https://s.aolcdn.com/membership/help/000015905/xfinitymovetoyahoomail.mp4

at minute 1:30, one is directed to create a “new strong password for your account”.

Question:  What is this password for and when is this password supposed to be used? Is this a new password for the Yahoo email account being migrated from Comcast?? Does this mean that once this is entered, this password needs to be used for any future access for this email account, INCLUDING when adding Yahoo mail to Apple Mail on a Mac?   I am confused by the many different passwords during this transition, as later on I am told that one has to also create an App password for Apple mail (NOT icloud mail which I do NOT use). Can someone please help and clarify what the "new strong password" is for vs. the one time "app password" for Apple Mail?   I hope that I will be notified if an answer will be posted. Thanks.

Good afternoon user_r4rfzq! You would log in with your current existing Xfinity email, and you current email password for the transition. Please let us know if you require additional assistance, or have additional questions.

XfinityJohn, your answer has NOTHING to do with my questions. Please look at the links and at the questions and don't just waste your time and my time. if Comcast is getting rid of us, if nothing else, it should provide adequate help to migrate us over. This is not "assistance".

Once the new strong password is created that would be for your Comcast email under the new Yahoo format. If you were to log into any third-party mail applications like Outlook, Mail for Apple, or Mail for Android that would be the password you would use to log your Comcast email into those apps. Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks, this sounds much better. I will repeat what I understand from you.

1. The new strong password I am instructed to create will be used to login into my "Comcast email under the new Yahoo format" after the migration to Yahoo was executed. I will no longer use my present password for the Comcast account, it will be replaced by this new strong password that I have to create. I will have to create a new strong password to access "Comcast email under the new Yahoo format" for each email account now I have with Comcast.

2. Until now, when I setup Apple mail on my Mac, when I was asked to enter the password for the email account setup with Comcast, I did enter the same password that I entered for webmail in Comcast. After the migration, when I will setup the Yahoo account in Apple mail, I will have to use the new strong password I created (as described above).

3. I do not have to generate and use a one time 3rd party app password; no need for it in order to continue getting my emails in Apple mail for all my Comcast email addresses as until now.

Please confirm that the above is correct. Thanks.

Hey there that all does sound correct. The new strong password you create will take the place of the one you have been using, and you will use that when logging into your Comcast email at Yahoo, or on the Apps where you currently view your email.  You should not need a one-time password because the strong password would be the password you would use to set up your email again once migration has been successfully completed. Please let me know if this helps, and again we are here and happy to help if you have additional questions, or concerns. 😀

Thank you. Hopefully the migration will work out and mail will work without problems after the migration.  With 3 vendors in the loop, hopefully there will be no finger pointing and if problems happen, proper support will be available from each vendor, as we didn't ask for this migration. If I have other questions, I will return.
