Comcast modem

Why do I have to use Comcast’s modem to get unlimited data for free? Why does it cost $30 for unlimited data without Comcast’s modem.

Good evening, user_9p9aas! Thanks for reaching out about the unlimited data plan. Our new Next Gen internet plans all come with unlimited data included. You can use our equipment at no charge or use your own. It is your choice!

That isn’t what we were told. My husband tried to change to the 1.2 gig plan but declined the offered modem. We were told that we would have to pay an extra $30 if we wanted unlimited internet. So can we have free unlimited data without the Comcast modem?

I apologize if you were not told the correct information, user_9p9aas! Before the Next Gen plans that came out on 6/26/25 that was true. You could add unlimited data for $30 per month with an owned modem or xFi Complete that includes our modem and unlimited data (free is some promotions).

 

The Next Gen plans include unlimited data regardless of what equipment you are using. It is attached to the internet speed itself, not a separate item to add anymore. 

 

We can get you into the 1.2 GB plan with your own modem and you will have unlimited data included. You can update that on our Plan Builder or feel free to send us a direct message with your full name and complete service address to “Xfinity Support”. To do so, click on the direct messaging icon located at the top right of this forums page.

 

Here's the detailed steps to direct message us:
• Click "Sign In" if necessary
• Click the "Direct Message” icon (upper right corner of this page)
• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
• Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list
• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
• Press Enter to send your message
