Cancel Account For Person Mentally Incapacitated

My Father-In-Law is in a long-term care facility and is incapable of cancelling his account due to a brain injury.  My husband has Durable Power of Attorney.  Is this all that is needed to cancel his father's account?  Thank you.

Hello marzie78, thank you for visiting our Forum to get help regarding your fathers-in-law account. He's lucky to have you and your husband in his corner to help him, and I can't imagine what your family has gone through. I hope he can recover and rest from the injury. If there is already a user on the account that has full access, they can disconnect the account already. Otherwise, in order to be added to the account you would need to provide a court order that names your husband as the guardian or conservator of the account holder/primary user. Do you know if your husband is already a user on the account?
