Can I move my @comcast.net email to another provider?

I have been a xfinity customer for over 20 years.  I'm tied of being forced to change my email password every month, especially when it takes 1 day for the password change to take affect on Apple devices.   Can I move my email address to another provider without closer my xfinity account?

Hi, @user_asrtal - Thanks for reaching out! I completely understand how frustrating it is to deal with password delays, especially across your Apple devices, and I’m happy to help clarify how your email works.

Because @comcast.net is hosted on Xfinity servers, the email address itself cannot be transferred or ported to a non-Xfinity provider (like Gmail or Outlook). However, you will never lose access to your @comcast.net address, even if you make changes to your account down the road - as long as you log in through webmail at least once every 90 days, it remains active and free for life.

We do not require customers to change passwords on a monthly basis. If your Apple device is constantly asking for a new password or taking up to a day to sync, it is usually due to how the account is authenticated on Apple Mail. Here is how to fix it:

1. Delete and Re-add the Account: On your Apple device, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts, tap your Comcast account, and select Delete Account.

2. Restart Your Device: Power your Apple device off and on again to clear out cached security tokens.

3. Re-add as Xfinity/Exchange OAuth: Go back to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account, select Xfinity (or Other using smtp.comcast.net / imap.comcast.net), and log in through the secure web popup. This locks in modern authentication so that you won't be prompted repeatedly.

4. Check Webmail Access: Ensure you can log in smoothly at xfinity.com/email. If a security update is truly required by the system, completing it there first will immediately sync across all your devices.

Please let us know if removing and re-adding the account on your Apple device resolves the loop for you! We appreciate your 20+ years with Xfinity and want to make sure your email works seamlessly.

This is not an accurate comment.  I know it's not an automated requirement but you claim its due to security risk.   Either your systems are extremely vulnerable or your threshold need to be adjusted, either way constantly blocking my password and requiring a reset is not convenient and is bordering on annoying.

@user_asrtal - I completely hear you, and you are 100% right - having your account repeatedly flagged and locked for security resets is frustrating, inconvenient, and should not be a routine part of using your email. I sincerely apologize for the headache this has caused.

When our system blocks a password, it’s an automated security threshold detecting what it perceives as unusual login activity. You shouldn't have to keep jumping through these hoops, so here are the main factors that trigger those automated security flags on Apple devices and how we can stop them:

Mismatched Saved Passwords Across Multiple Devices:

If you have an iPad, iPhone, or Mac trying to fetch mail in the background using an older or cached password, the server sees multiple failed authentication attempts and automatically locks the account for protection. Updating or re-authenticating all Apple devices at the exact same time prevents this loop.

IP Address Hopping (VPNs / Apple Private Relay):

Features like iCloud Private Relay, VPNs, or rapidly switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks cause your IP address to change constantly. Our security system can misinterpret this as logins from unknown locations. Disabling VPN or Private Relay for Xfinity Mail can eliminate these false alarms.

Enable Two-Step Verification:

Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) via your Xfinity account settings creates a trusted device status. This significantly raises the security threshold and prevents the system from misidentifying your normal logins as a risk.

We value your 20 years with us, and my goal is to get this permanently resolved for you so your email just works. Please let me know if turning on Two-Step Verification or reviewing your connected Apple devices helps stop these locks!
