bogus call about an appointment scheduled that i did not make

I first got a text then got a call from 855-891-5606 stating it was Xfinity and a technician was coming on Sept 15th for an appt I scheduled.

I made no such appointment.

Is the 855-891-5606 a legit Comcast phone number.?

That is a good question! We do have a few different numbers that we use, however, I don't have every single one listed here. One easy way to check on this is in your Xfinity My Account app. You can look in the app and see if you have a pending appointment, and I can check on this for you too if you would like! If you look in the app and there is nothing there, I would say you have nothing to worry about then. If you do want me to look at this for you, you can send me a DM right here!

To get started, please send us a direct chat message with your full name and service address to Xfinity Support. To do so, click on the chat icon located at the top right of this forums page.

Here's the detailed steps to direct message us:

• Click "Sign In" if necessary

• Click the "Peer to peer chat" icon (upper right corner of this page)

• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

• Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list

• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

• Press Enter to send your message

I ended up going to an Xfinity field office and they confirmed that I had no appt scheduled for my account.

Probably a case where these texts and phone calls had wrong phone number

for a legit appt for another customer and address.

I have received two calls from this number.  Each one after I called to get help with my internet service.  They said they were the advanced technical department for xfinity.  He asked if my problem was with my TV or internet.  I don't have TV service, shouldn't he know that by looking at my account.  They wanted to know if my internet problem resolved itself from the time I talked to tech support three hours ago till now.  No, I am still experiencing issues with my internet speed. Then he asked me if I owned my own equipment.  I do.  Sorry there is nothing they can do to help me.

It just smells of a scam.  They did not ask me for any personal info or to access my computer.  It was just weird.

I scheduled an appointment with a tech from Xfinity, and then got what I think was a bogus call maybe an hour later looking for information about the appointment I scheduled. Xfinity had no record of the call, but they also said they weren't sure if it was one of their numbers. The number is [Edited: "Personal Information"]. There has to be a breach somewhere because they clearly knew I scheduled an appointment. With today's data breaches, you guys should have a handle on all of your outgoing numbers. I don't think that's too much to ask. I don't think "I don't know if it's a scam. Look online." is not really an acceptable answer from Xfinity. I'm not trying to be rude, but your lack of knowledge could lead someone to do something they shouldn't

@user_d1d0c4 Appreciate the feedback on this! I'm sorry this all happened, but glad this visit is still intact.

Did the agent say they were calling from Xfinity about the visit?

I no longer work for Comcast.

I called 1800-Xfinity because I was having problems with my internet. When we couldn’t get it solved over the phone she scheduled a tech to come out but stated that if it’s not a problem with my modem then I’ll have to pay for the visit. This seems odd because I did not schedule the appointment, she did. About 20 minutes after I hung up I got an automated call stating that the tech has fixed my problem and if I was satisfied with my service. I just hung up because I had just made the appointment so this has to be a mistake. Then I got a text from a 4 digit number (not the usual 5 or 6 digit text from xfinity) asking me if I would like to confirm my appointment or cancel it and attaching some odd looking link titled “to see if charges apply to your appointment click here”. I did not click on the link. Another 30 minutes goes by and I get a call from an (844) number claiming to be advanced technical support and asking me if they can help me further so that a tech doesn’t have to come out. It should be noted that he also had my appointment times wrong. I told him it sounds bogus and hung up and tried to see if I could call the number back. When I called back it didn’t even ring, didn’t say welcome to xfinity, just a guy answers going “hello?” When I told him I received a call from this number he said he’s from advanced tech support and then wanted to confirm my address. I didn’t give him any info because it was so shady and so I asked him if he can please state the number to his own department. He put me on hold and kept taking me off hold periodically to say “we are gathering this information for you, sir. Please continue to hold.” I hung up after a few minutes and decided to call 1800-xfinity again to see what’s going on. The woman then told me that SHE is tech support and there is no advanced tech support. She also told me not to click any links from a number claiming to be xfinity. She said she would report my issue to the “higher ups” and we ended at that. Immediately after ending that call I got a text from the regular xfinity text number saying almost the exact same thing as the last text I got with another strange looking link attached. This time it had my appointment times correct. I decided to then just call the other comcast number that’s listed besides the 1800-xfinity. I finally got an American voice but she stated that everything happening here was legit and as long as they aren’t asking for personal info then I shouldn’t worry. But this (844) number calls me constantly now and I’m fed up. What is going on comcast? Did you sell my info to some bogus company? How did scammers know I made an appointment and if it’s not a scam why are they harassing me so and so adamant about helping me before they send a tech? Do you guys really THAT BADLY not want to send techs out? I need answers now.

Hello @user_aaf802 Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us here and to give us the details as to what happened with the troubleshooting, appointment schedules, messaging and calls. I would be concerned as well with the different details flying around and you can never be too safe nowadays. Based on what you explained it seems like our team that works to help with unneeded appointments saw your request come through and they worked on the issue and think they were able to resolve it or can resolve it. They typically will not cancel an appointment unless you confirm that it was resolved. For the most part you will receive calls from us on our main 800 number 1800comcast. There are other departments/teams in the company that work on various issues from front line to tier 3 (national) If the calls are ongoing I can check to see if there is still a open request on your account that is causing the calls to continue, but we usually resolve those after a few tries to reach you.
