Are Xfinity chats all scams?

I contacted Xfinity through their chat assistant. I wanted to add mobile to my Internet account. The agent offered me a very nice package and I even got a credit deducted from my account. I was given an appointment at my local store to pick up my Phones. The store informed me I had to be scammed. They had me sign up for a different offer which was more expensive and  paid a deposit. Yesterday evening, I received an email stating that I need to send photos of my ID before it can be approved. My ID was already submitted at the store. This was online customer service requesting this through email and chat. It seems that the communication is terrible. After 24 years with them, I have lost total trust and I don’t know what to do.
