Amber Alerts Misappropriating the Emergency Broadcast Service (EBS)

The other night, my streaming was interrupted by an Amber Alert; there was no way to turn it off nor move away.  It was clear, from the bad terminal graphics, this was employing the EBS feature on Internet Streaming.

The EBS Service is for community emergency announcements, not issues that affect individuals.  Albeit sad and life-altering, it's still a limited audience.  the FCC provides the EBS for events impacting a wide audience -- Tornados, Floods, Explosions.  Using the EBS for an Amber Alert is misappropriation of EBS and it should stop.

If Xfinity wants to provide such a service, spend the money and develop it.  Otherwise, leave EBS to the experts.  Thanks

Hello @user_7e8e80, thank you for reaching out to our team through Forums. Xfinity does not issue, control or alter the alert messages in any way. Xfinity merely passes through messages that federal, state or local authorities choose to send to the public. Xfinity has a regulatory obligation as a cable operator to pass-through Emergency Alert System alerts. The Emergency Alert System is intended to inform the public about local, state or national emergencies that may be of importance to the customer. Xfinity customers cannot opt out of receipt of these alerts.

"The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national public warning system commonly used by state and local authorities to deliver important emergency information, such as weather and AMBER alerts, to affected communities. EAS participants – radio and television broadcasters, cable systems, satellite radio and television providers, and wireline video providers – deliver local alerts on a voluntary basis, but they are required to provide the capability for the President to address the public during a national emergency."

This IS regulated by the FCC.
