Agent asked for SSN

An agent asked for my SSN on a form when discussing a new plan. Why would they need that?

user_bewxwd Was this for Xfinity Mobile? You may be asked to provide your SSN for a soft check to determine if you can carry additional lines/devices. If this was regarding residential services like Internet and TV, we do not ask for SSN over any Social Platforms. Generally, we do not advise anyone to provide extremely sensitive personal information like that over social media.

@XfinityBenjaminM it was for a new deal regarding internet that included a 10th generation iPad that had “unlimited data” I do not have xfinity mobile but could the iPad be why the asked for the SSN? Otherwise you need to report a certain agent

Was this discussed over a social platform or chat? Generally through chat you may be asked for PII information depending on the order being placed.

It was through the chat provided by the xfinity app; the same app I use to pay my bill, etc. I have the transcript downloaded

Thank you very much for the clarification @user_bewxwd. Normally the only time we would see that type of information requested is for a Xfinity Mobile service order.

So should I be worried this agent asked for it?
