Add box to my account

Hi, I have a Xi6-T box that I’d like to add to my account. How do I change the account info, or is that done by ComCast customer service?

Hello, @user_4a6772. The Xi6 device should already be listed on the account once it shipped on our end. Did you get the device by mail, at the local store, or from a previous account you had?

After waiting nearly a year on the waiting list at my local Xfinity store I bought this one 2nd hand (eBay). It still has their account info loaded.

Oh, wow! Thank you for sharing that information with us, and for bringing this to our attention through our Forums. I understand you'd like to get a new piece of equipment added to your account, and our Digital Care Team is here, every step of the way.

Before we get started, can you please send us a private message? This can be done by clicking on the chat icon, in the top right hand corner of this screen. Once you click on the icon, you should be able to search "Xfinity Support", and this will pop up the chat box for you. Thank you in advance, and I look forward to speaking with you!

I no longer work for Comcast.

Except for the few brands of CableCard devices intended for retail sale, it's best to avoid buying cable boxes. If they are branded by any cable company there's a good chance Comcast will consider them unreturned equipment and will refuse to activate them.

Likewise, buying 2nd hand modems or Internet gateways is chancy. Again if they are cable company branded they are likely to be considered unreturned equipment. If they are not so branded they still may be registered to another customer and again, Comcast may not activate them.

As much as it hurts, do yourself a favor -- rent cable boxes from Comcast and, if you decide to buy a modem or Internet gateway device, buy them new-in-box from reputable retailers.
