Activating a new modem

I purchased a new 3rd party cable modem that is xfinity approved to replace and older 3rd party cable modem. How do I make the switch? Do I just switch the cable to the new one and comcast updates that change automatically or do I need to contact someone to inform them that my hardware has changed?

To send a "Peer to peer" ("Private") message:

 

Click "Sign In" if necessary

 

• Click the "Peer to peer chat" icon

 

• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

 

• Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

 

• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

 

• Press Enter to send it

You can download the xfinity app and activate  your new modem there.   The app will walk you through the setup process.
