4k DVR upgrade request
Has anyone else recently had issues getting the XG1v4 from xfinity?
Over the phone , I indicated that i just bought a new 4k TV, and needed to replace my currect DVR with the new 4k style tv box. They shipped me a non-X1 USED old style 2 tuner cable box. I then went to the store to see if I could swap it out , and they told me it was out of stock, and did not know when they would get any in. This is very frustating , and am thinking of switching to FIOS....

I hope David T. still works for you guys at the Danvers MA location. He was exceptional, you need to compensate your star employees appropriately so they do not go find another job. Please let his manager know what an outstanding employee he is.

I got a slightly different story - see my post in this forum on Dec 17 titled "Why can't Comcast ship 4K boxes". The Xfinity website for 4K says you can order a new box right from your 4K TV set, but this does not work.
I did an online chat and was told that Comcast could not ship me a 4K box, they are only available in stores. I really do not want to go to a store, given the COVID situation, and even if I did, there is no assurance that they would have a box available for me. There are no phone numbers listed for the stores near me, so I cannot call a store to verify that they have 4K boxes in stock.
If I did go to a store, I would certainly prefer curbside pickup. Otherwise, Comcast is putting its employees and customers at increased risk. This seems like a reasonable thing for Comcast to consider.

I have also been having problems doing this upgrade. I first chatted with a customer service agent online, and was told that I could get the upgrade by bringing my current box/dvr into a local store and making an exchange. So I disconnected the equipment and brought it there. They said there would be no problem giving me an upgrade, but they had none in stock. They suggested that I contact customer service via a phone call rather than online chat.
So I brought my box back home and reconnected it, and then called an agent. When I spoke to the agent, they said I could not get an upgraded box because I do not rent my internet modem from Comcast (I use a Comcast certified unit that I had purchased instead). I have friends who have this same set-up and are using an Xfinity 4K box with no issues, but the agent insisted that I am required to swap out my modem for one that would require an additional monthly fee.
I would like a further explanation of this. With ATSC3 coming soon, it will be possible to eventually start getting higher resolution TV with an antenna. Is Comcast going to insist that I have to pay this additional monthly fee to gain parity with what is free over the air? I can understand that supporting an all-Xfinity set of equipment may be easier to support, but since my high-speed modem has been approved by Comcast for Internet service, I don't see why it can't also be used to supplement the 4K TV box.
Please help.
Thank you.
