48 hours to activate a new modem?

I chatted with three agents online and then a phone rep. About 2 hours all-in. Just trying to get a new netgear nighthawk cm1200 activated for my home internet. I was told by the phone agent that it takes 48 hours to activate a netgear modem and I should use the Xfinity free hotspot app for two days and then the new modem should work. Is this for real? It takes 48 hours for netgear modems to start working with Xfinity?!? Seems unlikely.

This is definitely strange and should not take this long unless you are waiting for an installation appointment. I am sorry to learn about this experience. Thank you for choosing us as your service provider. We are the right place to go for help. When you first attempted to activate that modem, did you try using the XFINITY app like in the video in this link?
