2gig/300mb Wireless Speed is IMPOSSIBLE with the XB8

Long time Xfinity customer here.  About 1 year ago I upgraded from the 1gig download service to the 2gig service.  Thinking that I can double my  speed.....BUT there is a catch that is not discussed anywhere.  I was given the XB8 wireless modem/router and proceeded to install the xfinity device in place of my older personal router.  Low and behold my wireless speed as checked by multiple resources would max out to only 1gig download.  Why is this?

Well the short story is you can ONLY get the 2 gig speed if you have a wired ethernet connection from the XB8 RED port to a computer that has a 2.5 or 5gig ethernet port.  OK so that makes sense....

But what about WIRELESS?

I have a laptop that has a great Intel wireless card the AX200/160.  Its capable of connecting at 2gig speed.  But wait..  to get the router to transmit the 2 gig speed that I had upgraded, I needed to select the wifi 160MHZ transmission band inside the XFINITY APP.

GUESS WHAT?

Inside the XFINITY APP you can see that there are options for the 40/80/160 transmission bands.....  BUT wait for it..... the 160 is GREYED out.  Not selectable.  So without the 160 option then the 40/80 are the options that will max out at 1gig.

The only way to fix this it to self purchase an Access Point with a 2gig+ WAN port and that has the selectable 160MHZ Band.  So that is what I did.  And my network speed is great.  Except all of my other devices will be at 1GHZ speed.  Thank you XFINITY for the misleading advertising.

I've been asking many of the Xfinity customer service reps and on 2 occasions they said that they would send me the XB10 but only got another XB8, which I had to return.

Will the XB10 have the selectable 160MHZ band so I can get the 2gig speed that I have purchased?  If I downgrade my service 1gig now it will cost me more than my current 2gig plan.   Go figure that?

Hello, user_3f4435. I understand how important it is to feel confident you’re getting the best performance from your Xfinity Internet, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to connect with us here on the Xfinity Forums. Xfinity is always improving its equipment and recommends updating your device every two to three years to get the most out of your Xfinity Internet subscription.
Both the Xfinity XB8 and XB10 gateways support 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz WiFi bands, each with a connected client limit of up to 100 devices, so they’re well‑equipped to handle busy households and smart-home setups. One spot where they differ: the XB10 supports up to 10 Gbps maximum data throughput, while the XB8 supports up to 2.5 Gbps, making the XB10 a stronger choice for customers with the highest bandwidth needs.
We’ve included a helpful article below that breaks down the full specifications and features for all Xfinity Gateway models, so you can review the details and see which option best fits your setup.
