1 gbps plan, speeds suddenly capped to 40 mbps from 2/22

Hello, I am a new customer, started with a 1 Gbps plan on 2/3. Everything was working mostly fine until Sunday. I was getting speeds of 800 mbps through wired and 100-500mbps through wireless depending on the device. But since yesterday, the wired and wireless are topping off at 40 mbps. Tried resetting the gateway to factory and that did not help. When I reach out to xfinity assistant, it says I will be charged for a tech to come troubleshoot. I don't see why I would pay for them to fix their service.

what are my options now.

I'm sorry to hear about the connectivity issues, user_93hys3. If our troubleshooting system is recommending a technician visit, that would be the best next step. There would only be a charge if the issue is found to be unrelated to our service or equipment.
